Need some advice on selling

Things are getting harder for me financially...my dog is sick and she needs to go back to the vet. I've been trying to keep up with her prescriptions and special food, but it hasn't been easy. She's supposed to be my mom's dog, but my parents don't want to spend the money to get her treated. It'll be a few more weeks before school is over for the semester and I can go back to work full time, but my dog needs to get to the vet sooner than that. So, what I was thinking of doing is selling my 1/3 resins. I would like to keep them, but if it's between dolls and my dog...well, you know. What I need advice on is how much to sell them for. The boy is a MiroDoll body with a LoongSoul head, and he's practically brand new (I only got him a few months ago) He has a face up (which can be wiped) but he still needs restringing, probably with some new string.
My girl is a Domuya Flexi body with an Elfdoll head. The head is pretty new (maybe a year old or so) but I think I'm the fourth owner of her body. She also has a faceup which I can wipe, needs new string, and also has some fairly extensive staining on her legs (I can try to see what I can get off with a Magic Eraser). She was also sueded previously. I can sell the bodies and heads together or seperately, and I also have lots of clothes in really good condition (they're also mostly new) shoes, a few wigs, and eyes.
I need to get as much as I can, but I want to be fair. The Mirodoll body is much newer than the Domuya one, but I think Domuyas pose better. I also don't know how much to charge for shipping.

I feel sort of dumb for asking about this, but I didn't think I'd have to sell them. Any help at all would be really appreciated...please? Thank you!

It's not a dumb question. Usually in my experience a complete doll from one company sells the best. When they are from different companies I think it is easier to sell them separately as more ppl are likely to either want a cheap body or a nice head instead of wanting them together. Heads with very good faceups tend to sell better. If the faceup is not so good, a blank head sells better than one with a bad faceup.

For the bodies, especially the Domuya, you could do very well by doing a lot of good posing photos.

As with anything good photos are a must. They don't have to be studio lit, but do make sure the light is nice and even. If you have photos of the head that shows it from different angles that really helps the buyer.


I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I'm a pet owner myself and I would do anything for my darlings. My mom also will not pay crazy amounts for the pets so I understand how it is. (I just dropped $500 for a vet visit myself.) Good luck with everything. As far as I know Elfdoll heads sell pretty well provided they are a reasonable price.

do you have Care Credit or does your vet accept it? This would be an awesome way to compromise not having to sell all your dolls. You have to pay it off but the first 6 months are interest free. We had to use it for our rat's 700 dollar emergency surgery.

@landwhale: I thought it might be that way; it won't be a problem for me to sell the heads and bodies separately, if people would rather buy them like that. Actually, it might come out to be a bit easier with shipping and packing them up. And I will definitely take lots of photos; I just hope I can show the posing accurately, since both bodies are pretty floppy (I never did get around to restringing them with new string...I'll have to make sure to include that in the sales description)
I just got back from the vet and she said that Holly (that's my baby) has a small puncture in her cornea (on top of everything else). She also might need an appetite stimulant. I'm praying that she won't need surgery for her eye. Fortunately, my vet was really understanding and gave me a discount on the visit, so it only cost about half as much as I thought it would. She needs another check-up in a week, but hopefully she'll be better by then.

@skookum hime: I didn't even know that existed! I think you need good credit to apply, right? Unfortunately, mine isn't even existent right now. >_< But when I do build it up enough, I will definitely look into this, especially if my vet can't give me a payment plan of some sort. Also, I think it's awesome that you care so much for your pet. A lot of people I know wouldn't make that much of an effort for a rat, even though they're so smart and affectionate. They're amazing little guys.

Very sorry to hear about your dog - I have 3 pets so I feel your pain!

Do be careful with CareCredit. There have been a lot of people with really bad experiences with them. Google around and you'll see what I mean - they have funny payment guidelines that have resulted in people thinking payments have been made on time, and then getting slammed with late payment penalties.

I had to pay $3k recently for one cat, and $1500 for my other (thank you very much kitties!). Having pet insurance has been a godsend. Definitely check that out if you can - it's a premium price every month, but it covers 90% of a lot of vet care. My husband and I would have had to make very hard decisions if we hadn't had the insurance, we don't have that kind of money laying around.

Again pet insurance you have to shop around - we use Trupanion and have been very happy.

On the topic of your BJDs - I agree with wiping an average faceup. I recently put a feeler out for an IH doll I bought on the DOA marketplace. She came with a company faceup that was slightly damaged, and I love doing faceups, so I wiped her and did my own. Not a single person was interested. That's fine with me because I am 95% sure I'm going to keep her, but I think posting pics of her with a blank face would have gotten me more interest!

But it is true they are very weird on payment schedules but if you read everything we have done very well with ours.
