But wow that is a lovely boy. I'll have to show this thread to my friend; she's eyeballing a Long to shell her RP character. How big are Feng's hands compared to Gang's, I wonder.

That's a great question. Maybe this will help?

I think he needs bunny ears for Easter. Just sayin'... :-p Abe is resin, I will not nom on him. *choco-nom-noms*

Thanks everyone. I love the color. His skin tone works well for a Nilotic Sudanese. I'll just say his family migrated to Juba. hahaha... I still have a lot of research to do but learning about Sudan has been really interesting.

He's wonderful. The resin is so smooth, his proportions are great, and he looks so graceful. He has great dignity.

What are you going to do for hair for him? Will you leave him bald? RS heads look so great bald, I'm always tempted, even with the girls....

hehe... one of these days I'll have a bald character but not this guy. I want to use the wig to cover up the sanding seams on his upper forehead.

I've done some research on making natural looking African hair. I've yet to see a wig that comes close to non-Asian or non-Caucasian hair styles. Abe has chin-length dreadlocks but as a "wig cap" I want to do the soft-size velcro short-hair technique first. I saw a tutorial for that on youtube some time last year.

I found a dreadlock making tutorial using yarn on DoA that looked "easy." When I get the yarn I'll try to make it. Hopefully as soon as classes are over.

If anyone else has better suggestions for natural looking African hair I'm open for suggestions.

H'mmmm For short hair, you COULD try a fur known as "unborn lamb" or "karakul" since it's curly and it is natural hair.... for dreads, hand spun wool. Basically take natural wool from a batt (natural puff) and draw some fibres outward with fingers, twirling LOOSELY as you go to create a sort of "puffy cylinder" As you draw the wool away, it catches other strands and pulls them along. The staple (grabbiness of the fibres, which interlock) should hold it with no glue or anything, then attach to a wig cap... Only problem I could see is the lanolin oil in the wool fibres.

Some dog hair has a natural staple, such as Puli or Kuvasz. Contact a local dog groomer to see.

Actually, I do not know about "Sudanese Nilotics" precisely BUT the Nilotic people that lived in Ancient Egypt tended to have fairly straight hair. Straight and medium consistency and blue-black in color.

Keep us posted.

I'd planned for Abe to be from South Sudan and the character was originally blacker-than-midnight black. I'd still prefer him to be that way just because. I tossed in a little Nilotic to make him fit the color of the doll. hahaha... Like, maybe one parent is Nilotic or whatever. I really think that I'm over-thinking it but I like for things to be right. I'm not finished researching his biography but eventually I'll get it all sorted out. I'd thought a more indigenous background would be fun to work with. I've settled on the Nuer but I could change it to Zande or Dinka later on if those end up fitting better. Poor Abe, so unsettled. I just want to make sure everything fits before I settle.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm allergic to dogs, but the lamb wool might work. I'll probably end up making several failed wigs before settling on something that fits him best.

Wow! He looks really great in the dark tan resin... Can't wait to see him fully faced and such.
Bear with me while I think of something profound to put here...
