Well, this is random.

I've collected Guatemalan worry dolls since I was very young. When I got my Licca-chans, I thought, wouldn't these little guys make PERFECT dolls for them!?

I may try my hand at making something similar but with more detail. These ones are from Cost Plus World Market.

I have some of those that fit in a bag that you wear around your neck. The dolls are as tall as a penny! So mine are tiny.

The ones I had as a child were MUCH smaller than the ones I have now, and surprisingly, more detailed. I may have to take a trip to the town I grew up in (Tombstone, AZ) to pick some up like the ones I had as a kid. I must have had thirty of them! Half were in a pouch like yours, the other half were in a little yellow box.

Now what exactly is the story behind them - why are they called worry dolls?

You tell your worries to them before you go to bed, or when ever, and they take care of them. Some people sleep with them under their pillows. Usually there's like 6 in a package but I doubt there's any limit to the amount of worry dolls you can have.

Thank you for the response, DollyKim! ^^ That's pretty much the way it works, haha. I haven't had reason to use them in their intended capacity yet, thankfully! ^^;

those are pretty awsome. when I was in jrhighschool, it was a fad to have worry dolls on hair clips and keychains even on shoe laces!

Hehe really? The mental image I'm getting is pretty cute! ^^

I was at World market this evening and saw some REALLY BIG worry dolls! They're big enough to be dollehs for 1/3 size dollehs! I think I may have to get a few for Kaguya. XD

Haha, I guess so! Funny thing is, they had three different styles of the big'uns; they had some that were in the aforementioned little yellow box that came in sets of 3 or 5, then they had these that were the same size that were by themselves and came with a little blanket in their size; the third ones were the huge ones, and they were also by themselves, but they were much more detailed than any worry dolls I've ever seen. I think I may pick up some of each of them; I couldn't find any more of the little guys like I have, and I think it'll take a trip to Tombstone to find the tiny ones like Dolly Kim has. I miss my tinies; I want some more of them!
