Where do you live?

Postby Chrystal » Sun Dec 25, 2011 10:28 pm

Hi. I thought it would be a good idea to let everyone know where in the world they live. Me first: I live in Welkom, Free State in South Africa. It is a mining town - a few mines outside of Welkom and some closed down ones. I work in one of the hospitals here as a nurse. Our town has no traffic lights! but is full of traffic circles and has a few stop streets. I love it here. Moved up from Durban end of 2002. It is a big town with many people, but it doesn't feel like a town. The town is very spread out.

It is summer here and gets really hot and dry, but when it rains, it cools down - wonderful!

I live in central Illinois just outside of Champain-Urbana, a big college town. We have just about every store and restaurant under the sun. It's an easy place to get around and I love it. I actually live in a small township about 15 minutes away. Which is nice when you don't want to go to big town. We have an IGA, gas station, Mexican restaurant, Subway, DQ, and a pizza place. :)
I'm mostly on Tumblr now.

I live in the same town in which I was born--Mobile, Alabama. The city sits on the western coast of Mobile Bay, and was originally part of the Florida panhandle, but the Spanish couldn't hold on to it. Mobile was founded in 1702 by a French-Canadian explorer known today as Bienville, who later went on to found New Orleans. Mobile is a city of flowers and trees, and living here is like living in a wide, sprawling garden. People in Mobile are a little different than those in the rest of the state; the city's not as wild and libertarian as New Orleans (more's the pity), although there is a small but thriving counterculture. I always tell people that Mobile was the beta test for New Orleans. And we had Mardi Gras first, so there!

I live in Shropshire in England. People think we're either really posh or farmers... or both lol. It used to be a market town made up of little villages. But nowadays it's a stop off before Birmingham on the train line. It's pretty quiet I guess, and boring as hell. But at least we have an anime convention every year. ^_^
feeling unwelcome. It was a good sanctuary while it lasted. I'll miss you guys. .

Southern California near San Bernardino University, to give an idea. Close enough to touch the mountains but not get snow.

I live in Ohio. It's a pretty boring state, even though I do live in one of the most heavily populated areas. (Near Cincinnati.)
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

Florida here! Orlando, where all the theme parks are. It has given me a very passionate dislike for tourists. Also, nobody knows how to drive in this city. TURN SIGNALS ARE NOT OPTIONAL FOLKS!

I live in New York City, in Chelsea.
I am fortunate because our building is surrounded by a little mini park, so there are trees, birds and squirrels. I can see the river from one side of my apartment, if I peer through the buildings. New Jersey is on the opposite side of the river, and once in a while, when a big ocean liner is going down the river, it looks like its sailing down the street.
Also, in June, the sun is in a position over the river so that, when it sets, the whole side of my apartment is flooded with rose-colored light for about ten minutes.
Here's Sakura in her garden at that time of day:

I live about 20 minutes outside of Cleveland Ohio. It's a sprawling city full of industrial decline, poverty, crime and long harsh winters ...there is also a fantastic art museum, the rock and roll hall of fame, a top notch medical clinic and one of the greatest orchestras in the world lol There are a lot of smoke stacks still dotting the skyline churning out who-knows-what in pollutants, (you can tell you're getting close to the city by the acrid smell), but there are more abandoned warehouses and factories than working ones these days. But Lake Erie, which the city sits on, can be very pretty-I love going to the lake shore to watch the barges and giant ships come in-and there are some nice park systems. The township i live in is about a mile from one of the national parks and I see deer and coyote trotting through my yard on a regular basis. :)

Ohio is a strange place. Most people assume that because I'm from Ohio I live near farms and Amish communities lol, (not saying that I haven't met Amish folk...I just have to drive a couple of hours south or east to see them :P ).

What a nice topic :D

I live in Deventer, which is where I lived with my parents as well from when I was 7 till when I was 18 and went to college elsewhere. Between my 18th and 27th year I've lived in several places in the Netherlands, but about a year ago I moved back here with my boyfriend. Deventer is a beautiful old city and the river IJssel runs through it. I'm happy to be back here because I feel at home here :). Central Deventer is full of little quirky shops and antiquaries. And because of the traditional, characteristic buildings in the middle of the city, every year around Christmas time we have the Dickens festival, where everybody dresses up as characters from Charles Dickens' time :)
