Well, I pretty much only buy dolls from JS or pre-owned ones from ebay so I usually don't have to wait a super-long time for anything to be shipped.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

I sew for the dolls I've got, bead fancy corsets, read books, do photography, haunt the site I ordered said doll from to see it they've shipped, the shipper when they finally do...:p

Haha, picture-hunting comes before choosing a doll. So does name-hunting, but the next few dolls I have planned (which, sadly, won't be for a while -snif- T^T ) are all pre-made characters, so they come with names and appearances. I try to wait til the doll is ordered to buy things like wigs and eyes, but sometimes I can't help myself and if I spot the "perfect" wig or eyes while perusing ebay or the DoA marketplace, and I have the money, I'll snap it up. What I really don't do til after the doll is ordered, is gather materials for their outfits. With my first doll, I had to also gather up a stock of face-up supplies, since I really didn't have aaaanything. I'll also sew other dollieh clothes, whether for one of the dolls in my possession, or for sale, but I do that whether I have in incoming doll or not.
