MakoEyes - quick look

Postby landwhale » Thu Dec 29, 2011 2:42 pm

MakoEyes is a new company that produces urethane eyes. I know almost nothing about urethane eyes. To me they're just resin eyes and I have no clue what the hubbub is all about cept that they are super expensive. MakoEyes had a BOGO sale tho so I got my 4 pairs at $11 each or there abouts.

So the big deal is that urethanes are suppose to be super clear and photograph very well. There is something about the way the material reflects light. In my opinion, they are very clear and yes I actually do think they show more possibilities than glass, silicone and acrylic eyes but since I can't afford them at normal prices I won't be delving into them any time soon.

Makoeyes are a cheaper urethane so they don't show the crazy textures and depth you can get from other urethanes. The irises are printed instead of painted as well but the dome is super clear and glossy while the colors POP. The one thing is that I heard they scratch super easy so I have to be very careful with these.

On to the pics!

and another pic of Bory! He's my floater but I put in an order for his body with JS. I can't stuff him away anymore! Plus I need to fix his eyebrows. He was my third BJD faceup ever and the eyebrows are funky. (My second faceup was on him too but uh...it was disastrous.)

whaaaaaaa they're so pretty. I mean I chose the brighter weirder colors but their more normal colors look amazing too. For the ones I have, I especially like the orange one since it looks like glowing embers lol. I have to figure out the right doll to use those eyes in. Thanks for the pix Evelien. I would consider urethanes in the future if I had a specific look i wanted to go for with a character.

I have one pair of urethane eyes that were custom ordered for Noble because of his bloodied eye and they are amazing, I highly recommend them.

Soooo pretty. I really want to trust them and order but, being in the uk, I worry about delivery. :S

They deliver worldwide. In terms of delivery, they took a bit to make the eyes but this is usually expected of urethane eyes. But once they said your eyes were done there were no problems with shipping and no one has mentioned having a problem with not getting their eyes if that helps any. They're a new company but I don't think being new makes them particularly untrustworthy. I might hesitate to order a doll from a new company but the eyes were not so expensive that i had a big issue with it.
