I have nothing against the Bratz. The fact that they look like they have a badass attitude makes them stand out IMHO. I never really got the whole "Bratz are so slutty" thing when Barbie has had some outfits that show way more skin than any of the Bratz outfits. Sometimes I think it was the name that gave them a bad rep more than anything.

My biggest turn off was their proportions. If not for needing a jointed body for Domonique (she's close to their AA), and buying a couple to mug for clothes or a baby buggy, it would have been just the punk pair for the sake of having examples. Most of the skirts aren't hemmed, some things are hard to get on and off without snagging.

I've felt some of their clothes to be a bit inappropriate for dolls aimed at tweens and wanted by younger girls but it'd up to the parents not me to judge.

I just loathe the quality control. Smudged make up, poor clothing construction, cheap and nasty hair that's hard to style.... Plus MGA looks like they're crapping out designs, while Mattel looks like it's put some effort into the MH line.

I mostly dislike Bratz because the guy who owns them is such an immature, bratty (lol) person who keeps blaming Mattel for all the mishaps, and the sheer hate the Bratz line spews for Barbie kind of turns me off...

My only beef with Bratz is their terrible quality! Seriously, their hair is the greasiest, grossest thing ever. The clothes fall apart really easily and as far as the new jointed body goes, I bought one in the hopes to use the body for a head transplant and it was so floppy it was useless! I actually thought the hips were broken but it turns out it's apparently common for the new Bratz body to be floppy. MGM has really bad quality control ;^.^

So, I snapped one of the last Bratz Party girls, a Yasmin, over the Catz since I much preferred her full-set, and she came with extra clothes verses the kitty toy.

For starters, she was so strapped in that it took nearly an hour to get her and all the extras out. Lots of tape! After getting her out, though, nothing was damaged. MGA also had the brilliant idea of using thread verses a plastic or rubber bands to hold her hair down, so it wasn't all jacked up upon removal. Also, they used many teeny-tiny plastic holders to keep everything on. They broke easily, so I think that was the point. Anyway, while it took FOREVER to get her out, she and her stuff was safe!

Her hair isn't greasy, the fiber itself is really nice and soft and a gorgeous brown. The only thing is it's gelled in the back, and only the back. I assume her hair was supposed be totally gelled, but I think I may rinse it out. Otherwise, the hair is rather nice.

I actually like the pegs for the shoes. Changing them is a breeze, but it limits her ankle movement to only twisting back and forth, and she, obviously, can't go barefoot.

As for the all important joints;

She's not loose at all, but verses MH girls, Bratz have a little less over-all range. She has the same type of joints, save for the hips, which are a large peg (think the create-a-monster kits). She can sit, stand (with effort), touch her face, and has a chest joint the MH girls lack. Her hands aren't as detailed, and she has a small hole on her left for rings. She also has pre-drilled holes for ear-rings.

I think she was worth the $15 she cost me, but after having one of each, MH girls are a little better, but if your like me and would prefer an ordinary girl, these are pretty good alternatives. I like both.

The earlier Bratz did have much better quality in their clothes and hair than the recent Bratz but they are finally starting to improve due to people incessantly complaining about it on their Facebook.

The owner of MGA might have his issues but the CEO of Mattel isn't much better. He sent in spies posing as members of the press to find out what MGA (and probably other companies too) were planning on doing next. Of course the funny thing is that none of the copied ideas did very well and it wasn't until Mattel came up with the completely unique and original Monster High that they were able to have a hit.

They did make barefoot feet for them if you can find them. The most recent dolls to have them are the Sleep Over ones.

Yeah, neither company are exactly saints.

The angle I heard was that the man (whose name I unfortunately do not know) that originally designed Bratz worked at Mattel while he was creating the concept. MGA hired him away and made the final draft into the Bratz line we came to know.

Mattel later claimed that the first draft of Bratz was shot down by them, which would mean that they technically own the copyrights to the concept. This is the key thing; even if he came up with the idea for them while at Mattel, if he never pitched them, then Mattel had no right to them. It was after moving companies and then showing another draft of the dolls that MGA gave them the go. The reason why it seems so shady is that Mattel didn't make the claim until after the Bratz dolls started really dipping into their Barbie profits.

It was also about that time, which was the height of their popularity, that the Bratz dolls fell under attack for promoting a bad image to young girls for their more mature styling. I keep seeing "suggestive" getting thrown around, but, again, I don't see how they are worse than any other doll line out, even at the time when all this was going down. Bratz were just marketed exclusively as fashion dolls, which many well-meaning parents thought were terrible for small children.

Basically, the whole thing made both companies look ugly, and both companies played dirty, making the entire thing worse. As we all already know, MGA eventually won the lawsuit, banking millions and keeping and continuing Bratz, while Mattel later took a huge part of the market back with their brilliant Monster High dolls.

Speaking of...

My Skull Shores Ghoulia next to my Party Yasmin (whom is wearing a mix of the Party set and a separate clothing pack I bought with her).

I thought this was odd, but my Yasmin's hat is different than the one on all the promotional material. While hers is dark pink suede, the promos show a light pink knit.
