Dollieh funk! - Pullip the solution?

Postby Lily » Thu Jan 05, 2012 9:00 pm

So… I have some dollieh money burning in my pocket. love my bjds. I do. I have a new dollndoll Jarah that I am crazy about (can't pose for nuts, but SO pretty). But I am trying to tell myself that they ALL have to be "finished", as do my reborn kits, BEFORE I buy yet another blank naked dollieh. (Although maybe I need RS Pixiu. She's so little and so well-priced she doesn't really count. But after that. I swear.)

Part of me has really been yearning after the days I was a Barbie collector and my dolls would arrive perfect - perfect face, perfect hair, perfect clothes - and I I had to do was debox and soak in the beauty. My lost Utopia in which Bob Mackie and Robert Best turned out perfect dolls just for me. Unfortunately the past couple of years of Barbie collectibles has been really uninspiring to me, I have enough near-identical Genes to model their clothes, they don't even MAKE Lollipop Girls anymore, I haven't seen a Tonner or Momoko I've had to have for ages, Bluette creeps my darling other half out, those 1/1 child dolls someone posted here topped my desires for a bit until I realised they cost $200 to post to Australia, the high end resin/porcelain/custom clay fashion dolls are stunning but way beyond my pink collar budget, which barely reaches to bjds…

Result: Doll funk. I have the dollieh cravings, but not the right target. I am in exactly the right (wrong) mood where I might fall for one of the five dangerous notices of sales Customhouse/Aidolls sees fit to send me everytime they have another "Crazy sale!!!! Last one ever!!!! Not to miss out!!!" and find myself with a blank naked doll again. Mind you, I suppose at least I wouldn't have to worry about her arriving immediately.

…and then I saw my first in-person Pullips at an anime store. Asuka and a couple of Vocaloids. Instant love. And the more I looked, the more I loved. Love Pullip with her suspiciously Volks Nono-ish face, love grumpy little brat Dal looking like she's been forced into each and every outfit against her will, love Byul's plaintive fish face, love the clothes… Not so keen on the boys, but then, I generally aren't. I find I want a family of them.

And most of all, I am loving the thought of being a lazy doll collector again and not having to stress about eyes/wig/face/clothes personality unless I actually CHOOSE to.

So before I jump into the fray, can any Pullip collectors give me some advice? What are they really like? What do I need to know? Do people replace the bodies with obitsu bodies because a) obitsu bodie are just that good or b) Pullip bodies are just that pants? Any recommended sites? I'm looking at Pullipstyle and Dollfie World - feel slightly safer with Dollfieworld because I've been to the shop in person, but Pullipstyle has more choice - are they okay sources? What do I need to knoooow?

After all these years in the doll hobby, I'm a newbie again! Help?

I have a Dal and he is amazing (I say he because he is one of the Vocaloids - Dal Len) I love his posing he feels so smooth his face-up is perfection, there's a little switch in the back of his head that allows his eyes to move side to side.

People typically replace the Pullip/Dal bodies with Obitsu because they want more posabillity and or they just want to make their Pullip a little smaller. The Dal I own is just...Amazing. His clothes do make his movements a little restricted but otherwise are perfect. His bust doesn't move like Obitsu's do but his entire abdomen pivot's for more posing and the new pullip bodies and Obitsu bodies are eerily similar. The hands and arms as well as the legs can come off.

I say get the Pullip.

I have a Little Pullip who pulled me in for the beautiful face. I got mine from Pullipstyle. She is on an 11 cm body because the Little Pullips can't pose.
http://requiemart.com/blog/ This is the blog of an amazing Pullip collector and artist. She has over 100 photostories done with her Pullips. She helped suck me into Pullips.

Enablers! But I guess that's exactly what I wanted. :)

I'm glad to hear Pullipstyle is good to order from. The little ones are *really* teensy, then? Somehow, the Pullips were bigger than I expected them to be.

And AoH, if your Dal is on a new body, were there problems with the older ones? Some of the ones I am really liking the look of are from a few years back...

I don't think there's any problems with them it's just prefereces. I think most people don't like the original bodies because there was metal screws in the back but I think they're just fine. I only got Len for reference so...He's just on his stock body and I have no intention to change it either. (He's got little manicured nails!)

The little ones are super teeny tiny and look best when rebodied on Obitsu bodies from 11 cm and up to 27.

I can live with metal screws. :) I'm getting so excited! First to choose between Pullip, Dal and Byul, I guess...

Well look around on the forums and on PullipStyle and DeviantART and see who you like. I really love the Alice Pullip but the Vocaloid and Rozen Maiden ones are what turned me onto Pullips. ^^ I definietly recommend Dal.

I love my pullip Mi-chan! and she was the best deal ever! 1300Yen ($15ish) in a bin at a thrift store when i visited Japan this summer!!! <3 <3 <3 love her so much and really want another! especially a Dal! I must say though be careful when posing the knees. I snapped part of the side of the thigh off by accident. though she is old, Pappin from 06 i think and has horrible sun damage, but for the price i live!!! super glue fixed her right up!!!

That's pretty awesome. I'd love to be able to get a Pullip that cheap.
