Dolls with experimental (read bad) face-ups

New guy just after he arrived, chilling and watching TV (little did he know...)

Image
Looking surprised (understandably) and rather too odd :(

With flash

Without flash - can see his shiny eyes
Current face-up, still a bit odd. (I fail at anything too distinctly non-human...)

Image
Floaty head guys' previous face-up. It kinda worked but I didn't like the shade of blue, and that much acrylic gets kinda tacky regardless of what I did...

So his current face-up, I don't really like it but I do like the blue!

Soo what do you guys think of them, ok? bad? (downright awful?)
Meh I think I need to watch a few tutorials :|

I like the new shade of blue too XD They are not as terrible as you said, there is surely room to improve but the starting situation is not so desperate ^_- Maybe you have to try some new painting materials and not only acrylics... have you already tried watercolor pencils?

I have in the past, the only real issue I've got with watercolours is staining, even when I had sealant (which I've now run out of, curse the EUs laws, I think I'll have to try Testors Dullcoat, even though I've heard bad things about the new formula) the pigments would seep into the soft vinyl of the heads. Maybe I was using it wrong? The reason that guy is blue is his previous faceup included a ginger goatee type thing which stained his chin horribly. Then again though subtle staining is ok, my timelord OC's face-up is pretty awesome just because of that - hmm...
