Doesn't Fortuny fall under that category too? You know how I love Fortuny.

That's different than the reform dress I'm talking about, but it does help all those paintings where all the women look a bit sullen and all alike make sense, can't remember his name. My thoughts more along the bloomer outfits and such but the artistic reform dress would count.

Why do I get a feeling those artistic reform dresses are where a lot of Shakespearian heroines get their outfits from?

Oh yeah. It also seems to be the aesthetic that the Society for Creative Anachronism, nominally an historic recreation group, is based on. My friends and often joke about planning a "Come as your favorite Pre- Raphaelite character" SCA event.

Artistic Reform dresses were generally worn without, or with minimal, corsetry, and without bustles or crinolines. Hence, "reform." Of course, only wicked artist's models and the loose women they married (or cohabited with! Scandal!) would wear such things. They were heavily based on Italian Renaissance gowns, which the Pre-Raphaellites adored.

Shriara only wears 19th century gowns. I modded her bust for an hour glass figure. This dress is from Susan Sirkis Wish book #16. I shrunk it to 90% for my Planet Doll Mini-after I modified the bust. I will print it at 130% for an MSD. I will be using Wish Book #15 after I make at least 2 more dresses with this pattern. I have the men's fashion book as well, but haven't tried the patterns yet. Wish booklets have patterns for everything from underwear to hats and shoes. She also has wishlets for doll house sized dolls that I have used for my Sleeping Elf Mina at 125%-for the hands to fit through the sleeves. I plan to order Wish Book #3 today for the French Fashion Doll Fashions. I am working on my skill level with simpler fashions first.

Hazel has this lovely Edwardian dress she loves to wear:

Nanoka and Cherry have lovely outfits that are very "old school".

Hazel and Ryo-ohki also have more traditional "old school" Victorian dresses but I am not sure where I stashed the pictures!
