Dollhouse help (x posted at JS)

Postby EAB » Sun Feb 12, 2012 3:17 pm

I'm renovating another old dollhouse for my tinies. I'm making an elf house, and I'm going to use natural aquarium gravel for the stonework on the fireplace. Does anyone know what kind of adhesive would be best for attaching gravel to wood?
Thanks.

I'd go with hot glue and do it one by one. AQ gravel (as a fish keeper myself) is tricky stuff.

The doll house that I was working on several years ago had stone work on the outside, but I didn't use real rocks. I used an egg carton! It looks very real. I wish I still had the tutorial...it's in the bookmarks on my old computer....

I'm going to do a search and see if I can find it.

Ah!!

This is perfect! It can be field stone instead of river rocks. AND it can even have some glittery parts as if it has mica in it. Elves will like that. And I won't have to fight with hot glue and slippery stones (which I was afraid of, and Alopecia just confirmed).
Thank you, kittyasauras.

That is brilliant. One more reason I love egg cartons. XD Is there anything they can't do in crafts?

Here's a picture of my dollhouse with the egg carton stones pasted on the chimney. I still have to seal and grout it, but I'm really happy with the way it came out.
Thank you, kittyasauras!
I want to post progress pictures of the house. Should I do it here or in the "other toys" thread?

Thanks, kittyasauras.
And best of all, it's free. Of course, I have to eat lots of omelets with cheese, avocado, salsa and corn, but we have to sacrifice for our dolliehs.
