I'd like to know this too-- just to see what K2's thoughts are.

Personally, I have always srayed my doll bodies - be they resin or vinyl - just as an extra precaution.

Hijacking this thread a little to ask K2 something because I keep foregetting.

Is it necessary to spray MSC(does MSC even makes a difference for this) on the Obi hands or should I just stick to using Oxy10 whenever the hands get stained

You are going to LOVE this girl!! 50cm's are amazing dolls, and very fun. Take a look at MADh Vinyl if you haven't already, and you will see.

Do NOT use Oxy10 to remove stains. After a time, it can actually cause major stains itself. Parts of Omi's (owned by Kiki-chan78) head turned orange! Hazel has yellowed where I used it to remove stains on her. Since this was on her face, some interesting things were done when she was re-painted to conceal it. She has many stains I don't even worry about. She is almost 6 years old, and has been very much loved and played with. The stains are part of her personality for me.
It's all about Hazel!

I've used the Undead Threads blouse/pj top pattern to make tops for Josephine - love their stuff!

Not to hijack the thread here but, for instance, if I was looking to make this:

http://twilightarms.com/dolls/patterns/ ... t%20sd.pdf

I could reduce it by 80% in PS and print it and it should work out?

I am still utterly inept most of the time when it comes to sewing. :3

Greyhaunt wrote:Now as far as patterns go, there aren't really any made specifically for a 50cm, but I've found that patterns made for SD dolls reduced to 80% of the original size are just about right. They always need a little fitting, but not a whole lot :)

On Mr. Super Clear
We talk about "sealing" a face-up with MSC but I believe it would be more accurate to say we are "fixing" a face-up. A coat of MSC, while locking down a layer of work (pastels, watercolor pencils, etc.) still leaves a workable surface that will accept more pastels and paints without water mediums beading up. This property of leaving a water workable surface implies some amount of porosity. This being the case, I don't believe MSC will have much of an effect on the preventing or slowing of vinyl staining. I haven't performed any experiments of MSC "sealed" parts versus unsealed parts. These are just my impressions of MSC based on several other workable fixatives and art sealers I have encountered on the job.

I know that MSC helped with my friends DD staining issues. We did a fair amount of work on covering the existing stains and then MSC'd the whole body. Since then it will still pick up stains but not nearly as easily or quickly.

That's good to know. I think part of why the vinyl picks up so many stains is because of the texture. It's a bit sticky so the MSC texture is probably a bit safer since it's more sandy. My only vinyl doll is still in pieces but eventually she'll probably have to deal with all these issues too.

Vinyl stains because it is porous. If it was non porous like glass the offending material (dye) would be deposited on the exterior surface and could easily be washed off. I do not believe MSC provides a non-porous barrier so staining will continue, however a coat of MSC, like a body stocking or head cape does provide another layer the dye/stain has to negotiate so it should take longer to reach the vinyl. How much longer, I can't say but if left in contact with a stain causing material long enough these added barriers will stain as well.
