I wouldn't want it any other way but then again I'm used to it this way, it's always been this way here for as long as I can remember :). There's always the possibility of getting cheaper health insurance with less coverage and more risk.

I don't know what people with jobs pay on average for their coverage. I do know that private health insurance is insane. I am 62 with some health issues and a husband with diabetes and other health issues, and we pay $2500 a month for the two of us. No, I didn't make a mistake with the zeros. That is what we pay. We don't even have a particularly wonderful policy. But we can't switch because his diabetes and the complications would not be covered ("pre-existing" conditions are not covered by new policies).

Friends of ours who couldn't afford insurance put off having his cancer treated until he turned 65 and he could go on Medicare (the old-age health coverage you pay for with taxes until you retire, but which doesn't kick in until 65), and the result of that is that he is in the hospital right now as the cancer spread.

Holy bejeesus. That is horrible :(. I am speechless. That could never happen here...

Rah, rah rah! This is america..... *sigh* I know exactly what you mean. My Beloved put off medical care until she turned 66 to be able to see a doctor with Medicare. Her health problems went untreated for over 15 years! She is in constant pain and neither she nor I have seen a dentist in over 3 years.. Probably won't be able to *ever* again because Medicare doesn't cover it.

Since my bankruptcy last year, we've been able to pull ahead slightly, but not much. Our 1988 Oldsmobile will probably be our last car. When the Blue Whale dies, that's that. We simply can NOT afford another. Period. What we will DO, heading into our "golden" years I don't know. Public transportation in this town sucks.

On the bright side, though, I read over on the MADh Vinyl section that K2 has opened his store! WOOT!! I'm going to save up to grab a coffee mug! :D NO more dolliehs for me, probably ever, but I'll have a neat mug to go with the t-shirt he so graciouslt sent me last year! PURRRRRR

But... I don't get it. It's been all over the news (a while ago) that Obama wants to do something about healthcare but the American citizens are against it..? What's that about then..?

The government isn't running health care here, as far as I know... and employers aren't paying for it here either as far as I know... and going from $2500 to $150 sounds pretty good to me. But I think the transition wouldn't be that easy so it's easy for me to say all this.

I have no idea how it works here, to be honest, and why it's so cheap for us..? Actually people here are complaining that prices are going up lol. I don't think we really have a right to complain...

Well, to get things back to *being happy (can't tell the thread apart derp) I'm painting the back of the pony box and just gave #5 a cricket bat. It was a pony with a lasso so the pose seemed right. Yeah, all I know about ponies I learned from the Schmooze movie in the 80s and today's memes...

After this it's back to Monster rooting, finishing Holmes and Watson's case, making real clothes for them, getting Xavier and family out of the basket. Good old fashioned random doll tasks.

Just got back from the library where my mom works, they just got some wonderful new paintings put in. The old part of the library (it was expanded a few years ago) is two stories high so there's always been a huge amount of empty space between the top of the built-in shelves along the walls and the ceiling, so now there's size big paintings to use the space. Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Moby Dick, Little Red Riding Hood, and Lord of the Rings. And each painting has a three-dimensional element to go with it. It's all very cool and really brings in a lot of color. And it's nice because the old half of the building houses the children's, YA, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy sections now.

And in their little used book store downstairs I found a pretty collector's edition of Poe and another of fables and fairytales from Aesop, Grimm and Anderson. I've got a lot of fondness for fairytales and folklore.

Untrue.
Obama wants to do photo ops; American citizens are screaming for health care (and jobs, and a living wage, and equality under the law for 99% of the population).
