Rules of the internet - Did I miss any?

After I noticed some drama and forced myself away from commented I deicde to make a "Rules of the internet" Blog post
I wrote it as if you were a child of 12 or 13 just coming on to the internet for the first time. So I want to know did I miss any?

it seems like people these days (kids or otherwise) don't seem to get (or remember) the ramifications of the internet that posting a mean comment, being a young hypocrite, a troll, or forgetting tact and letting a pet peeve get to you (cough my bad) can get people mad, or upset and thus a fight, feelings getting hurt, etc

I want it to stop so if you want what you can do is read my post right there and tell me if I missed any also (credit me for resurrecting the idea from the depths of oh.. early 90's or more) you have my okay to share this, edit it, add on to it, but just spread the word to anyone of any age who might need a reminder or who really should know this before hand depending on the website

Well, it looks pretty good, but you need to double check your spelling and grammar. That will detract from the tone you are trying to set. Also - punctuation is a good thing! You have some confusion over "its" and "it's", also "there" and "their". Most spellcheckers seem to have some trouble with these. I posted a comment with editing and one suggestion. If I were a child of 12 or 13 going online for the first time, I would hope that my teachers or parents would have told me these. Do you think there are a lot of kids who don't get this?

For a 12/13-year old, having been told these things is different from taking them seriously and living by these rules. I think I was 16-18 when I still made some mistakes online...

Thank you I noticed the comment Live journal doesn't have spell check which is part of the problem. I just edited it I hope you don't mind I just copied and pasted your edits and added on 5a of don't be a drama lama (thanks for the suggestion)

I know I was told at least the basics when I was 13. I don't know it seems to me however that a lot of kids think its okay to bully others... then act if they are the victim or just not know which is why we have such YA books as "Lets go privet" seeing as a lot of kids either get it but don't care or just don't get it

Unfortunately kids will always bully each other and the internet is just a new, perfect way to do so... They're often stupid enough to do it out in the open. When I was teaching 12-year olds about two years ago I used to read their Hyves profiles (kind of like a Dutch Facebook) and they were insanely rude to each other, talking behind their classmates' backs without hiding messages from people they hadn't 'befriended'. I could read everything. The thought that pretty much the entire world can read everything is quite scary, but youngsters need to make their own mistakes and they'll only learn (at least, I did and I am not stupid, just very naieve) when they experience that it can go wrong.

I agree with Evelien; it's not that kids don't know the rules, just that they just don't think they apply to them. I thought I was better than the rules at that age and so does every other 12 year old I know. Calling them out doesn't really help either, unfortunately; especially not on the internet.

Yeah a lot of kids just think it's fine to post everything. One of my friends when she was living with us tried to put our address on Facebook. I was so terrified I was in a panic. I was raised with protecive parents and my first forum I ever joined my parents made sure I had basically everything I needed to hide from my peers who I really was. Alias, rules, what to do in case of bullying....My first troll encounter left us pretty chilled...

But I grew up and figured I wasn't ten anymore it was okay to give a little bit of info but not to broadcast everything.

Even on the internet, no one is completely anonymous- people can probably track you down somehow. And nothing is deleted forever. I hope there are young people in the internet who realizes and is smart about what they post. But I think with the mature ones, you probably can't really tell they're so young from the way they act online (unless they tell their age.)
