Erasers and Faceups

Postby Shinku_Rhapsody » Fri Apr 13, 2012 7:38 pm

Does anyone know of any erasers that doesn't leave residue? I've used kneaded erasers and plain white ones (ones intended for graphite). Chalk pastels always stick to the erased areas thicker than they should after I used them (especially kneaded erasers). Am I maybe erasing too hard and changing the texture of the area?

When working on a faceup I use Mr. Clean (or whatever off brand happens to be around) erasers. They don't leave any residue.

I use Prismacolor Kneaded Rubber, but I dab it over the spot instead of actually rubbing it. I've never noticed any residue or differences after using them and it does a great job of picking up everything, plus I can mold it so only what I flubbed comes up while leaving the rest alone. If it's a really big area, like the whole eye, I use magic erasers.

I also use a kneaded eraser (Prismacolor) and dab, I don't rub. For a larger 'mistake' I use a dry magic eraser to take off that layer. Since I work in thin layers with MSC in between, and the instant I like the look I spray to keep it, I usually don't have much to remove.

I've never seen my kneaded eraser leave residue, but I do know about the chalk pastels sticking to erased areas. Someone told me that this happens because of electric energy or something..? Anyway, I wet the area a little bit with a moist swab when this happens, then pat it dry with a paper tissue, and usually the sticky effect goes away :)

Maybe it's the brand of kneaded eraser I have. I'll try the Prismacolor kind. And the dry magic eraser, too. Thanks, guys! n_n

Have you seen Andreja's series of face up videos? They were really great for seeing exactly how she does airbrush faces.

I use magic erasers for blending lol! I use a kneaded eraser just fine, but I also blot, like Yanagi-sen and Linteia. I think mine is an off-brand that came with one of those giant color-kits you get in the chain craft stores some decade and a half ago. I haven't tried my click-eraser yet, but after seeing those vids a few weeks ago, I've been meaning to try it. Just haven't had a face-up to work on lately.

I saw those videos - they were helpful. n_n That's why I tied using those white click erasers. I think my problem was I was trying to use them on large areas. The magic eraser should work better for that.
