WIP: My gift for Mother's Day. LOL

Postby Evelien » Tue Apr 24, 2012 2:44 pm

Since my mother has been collecting kitty figurines since like forever, I've wanted to make her a kitty BJD for quite a while now. My first attempts using Fimo however, were so intensely bad that I gave up. That was months ago. Since May is coming up, this week I bought some Premier clay and I don't think it has affected my absent talent for sculpting, but it sure brought back the fun. It's so soft, kneadable and moist! I love it.

Now, you must know, the purpose of my doll is just to be strung like a BJD, and have inset eyes like a BJD. It will probably NOT be possible to pose this kitty cat properly, LOL, but that's not the point anyway. I just wanna make my mother a crappy silly little kitty doll that'll look funny in her collection. Plus she'll be able to proudly tell people that her daughter made it. XD Her almost 29-year old daughter. Hey... isn't that what Mother's Day is about? It's the thought that counts, right? XD

Okay, I'm already posting an update: I made a new head with the S-hook already inside, to make sculpting easier.. the faceplate I made looks like crap and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to make a headcap. It's actually starting to look like a kitty now!

I hope so! Thanks guys! I started carefully stringing the body today, but the clay isn't dry yet, may take up to a week or so I've heard... but I'm impatient, so I did it anyway and broke one leg a little bit XD. Due to the clay not having dried yet though, I could press it together... I think it'll be okay now... it'll be for displaying only anyway, she won't play with it ;).

If it turns out okay, I wanna make it a cute little outfit too lol, and I'll make a certificate of authenticity and a pretty box ^^

It'll dry by itself but it'll take a while. I haven't been able to find an estimate ANYWHERE though.

Don't worry, sounds familiar, we all R a little DERP sometimes ^^

Do you have experience with Premier clay? I just bought something that looked semi-pro lol. Even though I have zero sculpting skills... I want to make my mother something special and unique ^^.

My boyfriend saw me sculpting my kitty yesterday and told me he could do much better :P. He took some clay and after messing with it for about 15 minutes, he decided he wasn't any good, sculpted something that looked like a penis, chuckled like a moron and handed my clay back to me XD
