Etsy

Hi all!
Using my past experience as a cosplayer I started almost a year ago to craft accessories and jewelry that I usually sell in a little Japan-themed market, mainly headband with faux-fur cat ears, felt manekineko shaped phone charms and lace chokers. But participate to this monthly market is often really difficult for me, and it stops for January, February, July and August; handmade markets are really demanding in general for my possibilities, in terms of time and physical efforts, so I'm searching for another solution to finance my dolls family. I have sold some goods on eBay, but only manga series and roleplaying manuals: other goods seems to stimulate no interest and eBay fees are growing too much for my tastes. So I decided to try Etsy, especially thinking about starting to sell some doll items, like clothes and painted heads: someone here already uses it? Can you share your experiences? Thank you for your attention!

I did use Etsy, but I don't know if they changed the fees or not. Used to they charged .20 cents (usd) per item and then took out a certain amount after the item sold. I think the fees are cheaper on etsy but I'm not sure.
I've been using Ebay because a lot of the stuff I put up on Etsy didn't sell so I was losing money, but when I put it up on Ebay (which doesn't charge you until the item sells) I sold my stuff.

Both of them have a good and bad qualities.

@kittyasauras: the fee per item is still the same, 0.20 cent, and the % on the sold intem is 3,5%. I was thinking about continue using Ebay for my used stuff (like comics, books bought for university exams and now not useful anymore) and try Etsy in the meanwhile for the handmade stuff.

Etsy is hit or miss depending on your market niche. I've had little success despite constant feedback telling me to "give it time."

Speakin of etsy is it legal for a person in US with an F1 or F2 (sudent or student dependant) visa to sell stuff there? Since students can't make money outside of campus jobs...
