Sabrina Makes A Dramatic Entrance....

Postby magkelly » Sat Apr 28, 2012 12:07 pm

Desperate Housewives Bree, who I have renamed Sabrina, arrived quite unexpectedly on the stoop just before lunchtime. It's a lovely color red but she has a bit of a flyaway hair thing going on. I had to take her into the bathroom and wash and condition her hair, but otherwise she is just beautiful. I'm going to take pics to post here in just a bit. I just want to let her hair dry fully before I mess any more with her.

The outfit is just immaculately done from inside out. This has got to be one of the nicest 16" outfits I've seen from Madame Alexander. White satin goddess dress, with white crepe draping over that. High waist, with a deep blue sapphire rhinestone pin on the bodice. Circle link bracelet, silver. Silver dangle earrings with crystal diamond chips. A white and silver brocade clutch purse. Under all that some really nice white lace hipster panties and nude thigh highs edged with lace. She's got hazel green eyes and a naturals and peach makeup palette. Lips and nails match. She does have very articulated arms and articulated knees but not articulated feet or ankles. She has the standard fashion feet, solid ankles.

The stockings and undie combo surprised me as you don't see that very often with modern themed 16" dolls, just the retro ones. I am very please to see that as I like to use those for boudoir shots and I have a white lace and satin corset somewhere that should really look nice with these. The shoes were silver sandals. These were about the only thing I didn't care for in regards to the outfit. I didn't mind the silver but they were just paper up top and rather flimsy so I ditched those for some nice thicker white sandals that I had. They have ankle straps, slightly square heels, and they stay on better. I think they look a bit better with the dress besides.

There are a couple of small wrinkles from the box ties but I don't want to try ironing white satin. It's too easy to scorch and I don't have a steamer so I'm just going to let those fall out over time. They're not that noticeable with the satin anyway. Technically the brooch is supposed to be all diamonds too. I did look it up. The original outfit had a clear brooch. The sapphire one looks okay but I am going to see if I can find a similar one at Micheal's that's all diamonds so I can replace it. I've got something else that this would look nicer on, a blue outfit and I think I'd actually prefer it with diamonds instead. I have a ribbon with some silver printing on it somewhere. I may just put that diamond brooch on that and use it as a sash where the white ribbon is under her breasts now. I think it would make a nice alternative to what she has now.

At some point I'd like to buy or make her a longer wig in the same carrot hair color. I'm not crazy about the hair quality on MA 16" dolls. It's acceptable, but it's really not as nice as it could be. It in no way resembles Tonner or Ashton Drake/Integrity Gene hair. My platinum blond Alexandra Ford doll's hair is like this too. It's a bit cotton like and tends to go all over the place. The one doll I have that's MA that has nice hair is wigged actually. I think a good wig for this doll would be much better than the hair she came with. She needs a good Monique maybe. I might just have to splurge at some point on something a bit better. She's too pretty for this hair....

Desperate Housewives dolls? Another thing I didn't know about. I think I may be even more out of it than I thought.
Guess what? My first year in NYC, one of my roommates was Marcia Cross. Really. She was going to Juilliard and I was going to the Art Students' League.

Yeah they made a couple of sets actually, but from what I can tell they look almost nothing like the people they're supposed to represent. The Alexander company makes a 16" fashion doll called Alexandra Fairchild Ford. She owns a magazine called Elan and all the rest of the dolls in that series are her co-workers and friends. From what I can tell they just use the same half a dozen sculpts from that line whenever they make other 16" fashion type dolls. The Suzette Morgan she's like the Martha Stewart of that set, which is appropriate I am told for the Bree DH character as well.

Since I already have a World Class Beauty Suzette (wigged to brunette) I've decided in my little world that Suzette has a sister named Sabrina though I haven't quite decided what her job, life story, and all that is. I'm actually going to take some pics tomorrow if I can stop sneezing long enough to go there. I was sitting out in the screen porch of their mobile home doing some screen/storm window repairs for my parents yesterday...

(Yeah, I do household repair type stuff like that for them. I spend a lot of time at Home Depot and Loews learning a lot of this household repair stuff out of necessity. They're getting to old to be doing it and someone has to keep the house up for them otherwise the park people get pissy. My brothers can't be bothered, sniff...)

... when I started to feel pretty nasty. Head stuffy, sore throat, sneezing, the usual. I've got a bit of a sinus/cold thing again apparently. I have no energy for photo shoots right now. I spent most of the day in bed, shrug. Tomorrow if I can move without my head exploding I've got to finish the windows. I've got 3 more to do, but after that I can get back to taking some doll pics, I think.

Mag, I think it's great that you do things for your parents.
Sorry about your sinus infection/allergy trouble, though. I understand that this spring is the worst spring for pollen in recorded history. It's really rough. I can attest to that, and I know a number of people who haven't suffered from allergies in the past who are having trouble this year.
Feel better.

It most definitely is. Thanks, they do appreciate it what I do. It just annoys me sometimes that I have 3 brothers and yet I'm the one who always has to wield a hammer et all. But one is always too busy at work and the other two live too far away, so there you go, I'm the Martha Stewart around here by default. :) Dad's off shopping for hardware with a buddy and buying me lunch at McDonald's as I type, smile. (Oooh yum, hot FF!) I have allergies but normally the 24 hour allergy pill takes care of most of it. I'm up to two a day, the script dose vs the OTC one and I'm still sneezing et all. I'm a bit better today, but I'm still not up to finishing up the screens or photographing Sabrina. Not yet anyhow. I'll see how the day goes, I guess.
