rashes are no fun. a couple times last week I had a mystery allergic reaction, first just my hands rashing up, then my arms and chest. >.< noooo idea what set it off.

Yep, so I spent the last hour in a benadryl haze, and now I'm crabby. Heh... pun intended. Luckily, by the time the reaction started, we were already on our way home. It sucks because this buffet has really, really good food, but there's a loooot of stuff that has crab in it, so my options are limited. I can't even eat the things in the trays next to the crab, for just this reason. And the sushi bar is off limits. Which blows, cuz I love sushi. Funny thing is, I can eat all the shrimp and lobster I want, and I won't react. It's only crab.

I'd say try finding a different buffet....It's just not worth the risk. I'm just glad your okay...

It's the same at any buffet. I'm normally very careful, with not eating stuff with crab next to it, since I know the tongs DO get mixed up. But I wasn't expecting friggin' BEANS to get contaminated... it's major health code violation to mix those sorts of things, so I thought they'd be extra vigilant with them... guess not. It was dinner rush, so I can't really blame the restaurant staff. It just means next time, I specifically ask them to get me clean tongs.

But yes, I'm ok now.

OkamiKodomo, you could ask a server for a clean set of tongs just to be on the safe side. All you have to do is briefly explain the situation and I'm sure they would understand.

Yeah, I think that's what I'll have to do. I'm sure they'd rather get me a clean set, than risk a lawsuit. >_> Their food is awesome though.

Ugh. I hate my job. And...everything. It all hates me back right now. We got new equipment, but the paperwork they gave us was all wrong (and incidentally for a much, much nicer price gun than what we got) so we've been winging it, on top of being two people down (on a team that's supposed to be seven including our Lead), three people down last week when another of my coworkers took preexisting vacation time (I can't really begrudge her an Alzheimer's walk), and then yesterday we get yet more new equipment (this time it's the printers that go with the new guns that they hadn't had for us last week)...so we had to wait an hour for someone to figure out where the new tickets were that went in the new guns so we could actually do the markdowns we'd been brought in specifically to do. And then one of the vendor reps got on my case about doing my job and okay, I know that the markdowns weren't technically effective until Tuesday and we were marking them on Monday, but this is real life and there's not enough time or people to go around. Also, who died and made you my boss? I'm not going to stop doing my job because someone who doesn't even work for the company that pays me doesn't like it. You're hardly ever here and when you are here you give everyone a hard time and screw up my work cart. I'd been scheduled a shortish day and I'd intended to stay longer but after dealing with her I ran for it at the first available opportunity. Unfortunately that meant I had to transfer, and I missed my connection because the front of the bus said that it was going to the station and he barely slowed down. I didn't see that it was mine until he was already passing and gone. So I was stuck on the busway for more than an extra hour. Fortunately it was in the 70s and wasn't raining. I didn't end up having to flee to the nearest fast food to keep from freezing or frying this time.

Today we had to completely change the sale throughout the entire store (for one day, before we go back and do it all again tomorrow because they hate us), still down two people because the guy who they hired back doesn't start until tomorrow. And I had to make the gun do another new trick, and it turns out that it does that function worse than the old gun. After doing almost an entire extra floor before even starting my own area. I ran a half hour over my scheduled shift but all things considered I actually made good time. Even if I was the last one of my team to leave except the full time Lead. But doing double the work in the same amount of time is exhausting, that god we're actually getting someone tomorrow and another one is applying, I am really feeling at the end of my rope. Mentally and physically. And at least we know that these two are willing to actually do the job, won't vanish after three days and aren't dangerously unstable. ...I'm just exhausted. Maybe tomorrow will be a little smoother and I'll actually be able to visit the toy store to look for dollhouse stuff. Or at least be able to get through the day without having to constantly be singing to myself under my breath to keep focused enough to finish my job. >_<

Of course you'd have to use those "clean" tongs (or whatever serving device) in only one item or you become the cross contaminator. They would have to replaced all the serving utensils. Then again if the cross contamination has already happened (crab juice in the fried rice, etc.) before you get there, you're screwed anyway.

OutbriefCandle: Yeeeeesh. Sounds like you're running yourself ragged. You need a nice long nap and a cup of hot tea. -hugs- I hope things get better soon. I know how it feels, with someone that has nothing to do with your job telling you how to do it. Happened a lot at Universal Studios, because they had a habit of hiring the leads and managers for CityWalk from outside the company, so folks came in there, thinking they knew what they were doing, but really, just pissed everyone off. And anyone who was actually promoted from the ground level was transferred into the Parks themselves, so CityWalk was left with the dregs.
