I say try again and tell her: "I really want to get an interview for this job. Can you help me?" And ask to speak to someone else if she replies rudely again. You have a better chance if you speak to someone else.

Good advice.
And keep trying elsewhere. Temp jobs aren't bad, either. You make some money, and they remember you. I know several people who temped at companies who decided to hire them.

One thing to keep in mind that the larger he organization, the longer they take to go through the hiring process. In many corporations it's not uncommon to go months without hearing from them. My advice is to continue calling this one, but then take a fire and forget approach with other jobs- put your all into the resume and cover letter, send it off, then forget about it and focus in the next one. The worst you can do is hang all your hopes in one particular job, it will just crush you emotionally.

And don't forget, it's never too late to switch careers later in life. And don't knock library science. I got a friend that landed a really well paying job right out of college managing the libraries at three different branches of a private university. She had to drive around daily, but they paid for her gas and phone to boot.

Thank you again for all the help! As of this afternoon, I actually DO have an interview set up for this coming Monday at that job. I called this morning and actually got a nice secretary on the phone who asked if I wanted to be put through to the HR person's voicemail. I jumped on that and left a very enthusiastic "I-would-LOVE-to-speak-with-you!" message, and lo-and-behold I was on the phone with her an hour later. Even though I thought I must have sounded like a bumbling fool on the phone (I kept getting tongue tied >.<*), she must have heard something that she liked because I'll be meeting with her in a week. So excited! ^.^

Enthusiasm is often the biggest thing employers look for, I've found, depending on the job you're applying for. Some places just want a hard working body to fill a number, but anywhere you're going to interact with people, they usually want someone that can be cheerful and smiling. I hope everything goes well at the interview!

Okay, I will be honest and say I quick-read through the thread so I don't know if anyone else has given this advice but . . . you need to put your belief in yourself, not in tarot cards. You are the one capable of making changes in your life and you shouldn't box yourself in with limitations that extraneous items like tarot cards, palm readings, horoscopes and the like will do. You've already proven yourself to be so very successful, tenacious and capable by getting a Masters degree, for heaven's sake! Give yourself more credit! You are great!
