BFC hybrid? Anyone?

Postby ivory stardust » Thu May 10, 2012 10:04 pm

Hey folks! Got a quickie little question. I found a thread from, oh, sometime last year I think, about being able to hybridize an Obitsu head onto a BFCink body... but it seemed to have died off before there was any definitive answer. Does anyone know if this works? And if so, anyone got any pix?

Thanks a bunch! ^_^

Couple of questions for you. What is a BFCink body? We all aren't up on our acronyms. And what scale are we talking about, 1/6, 1/4, 1/3?

Sorry, I was about 3/4 asleep when I posted that and left off vital info.

BFC = Best Friend's Club. A pic of one can be seen here: http://www.target.com/p/BFC-Ink-Pen-Pal ... A-13557600

They're 18" so they'd be 1/4... the bodies are pretty slender, and I know the clothes fit Obitsu 50cm pretty well except pants fitting like capris and shirts having 1/2-3/4 sleeves. So the body size is comparable. What I'm unsure of is the size of the neck itself, and if the Obitsu heads look good on the body. That oversized head thing they have going on just isn't going to work for what I need, but if a hybrid would, that would rock.

I've got a 'dismantled' BFC body laying in a box some where... I'll see if I can find it and and snap a photo.

My stockest 50cm (Miyuki) is about 20 3/4" tall, so you're dead on about the sleeves and pants. 18" comes up to the bottom of Miyuki's chin, so from the pictures (I don't have any Best Friend's Club so I'm eyeballing this), I guess their heads are about the same size. The Haruka, maybe a shade larger. If you don't like the big head thing, you might look at some of the smaller vinyl heads available like the Alice, P-chan, Sleeping Princess, and Ai-chan.

The BFClubs do look like they have a pretty stout neck. Not knowing how their heads attach you might be able to get a 50cm neck piece (shortened) in there. The normal medium bust 50cm neck is about 7.7cm in circumference. See if you can get a measurement off of one of the BFClubs to compare.
Hope that helps.

mmmmkkkay. I've got the old style body, the one with elastic pieces run through. I do not recommend this body, not only does it not pose well, but the way MGA put the body together...it was not meant to come apart. The head is a pain to get off and all these little cup/washers are inside EACH piece of the body. Individual pieces of elastic hold it together, like one from the head to the neck, one from shoulder to arm, one from elbow to forearm.. etc. So lots of little tiny washers and a million pieces of elastic.

I have no idea how the new/current body's head is held on.

Image

Big thick neck. You might be able to sand or carve it down?

Image

The head is actually a perfect fit for the neck (!) It just looks weird sitting on it. Maybe with a different head?

Image

I laid all the body parts together where they should be, looks okay I guess.

Image

Okay, these are what holds the body together. A million of these little 'c' shaped washers hug the elastic and go inside that cup thing on the right. The head is also held on with the cup thing. It's HUGE like the size of a milk cap or similar. I had to cut the head of the bfc just to get it off. No matter how hot the head was it just wouldn't stretch off of it.

K2! - I was able to find a few measurements, and apparently the default BFC head is 11" (Holy moly, that's a huge noggin!). So I figure pretty much ANY Obitsu head will be more in proportion than that! I've been unable to find the neck measurements for the new BFC bodies though. Everything else, of course, but not the neck. >.>

Kittyasauras - That awesome! Thanks so much for the pix! ^__^ I've got my eye on the new body, that has jointed everything (pretty much). I was able to find a pic of the inside of the head, here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/47004438@N ... otostream/

I do wonder if a bit of light sanding may thin the neck out enough to not look so... off. And then perhaps replace the holding plug in it with an Obitsu neckpiece...

These girls are only $20... I might just have to suck it up and try it!

If you look in this photo you can see a big obitsu head on a body, but I don't know what body it is. It's the doll on the right in the blue with the teacup.

I have one of the water play ones. So there is no elastic and has the same joints as the newer ones.
