Colour Fixing

Postby Vetinari » Fri May 18, 2012 11:10 am

Seriously how do you do it?

I've tried soaking in dilute vinegar - then rinsing

The vinegar went purple... Then the detergent went purple

So then I tried salt water

Same thing

...Sigh I've rinsed thoroughly and moved onto slightly more concentrated vinegar...

What material are you dyeing? What kind of dye are you using? How did you dye whatever it is that you are working on?

Different dyes and materials require different techniques.

That's the issue - it's a set of black shirty things that I bought. I'm not dying, just trying to stop the bloody things from leaching all over the place... So I've honestly got no idea!

The water is gradually getting progressively less purple with each wash, but I'm also running out of vinegar...

stick it in the dryer to heat set it, if you don't have a dryer, try repeatedly ironing it.

After that soak/wash it again and see what color the water is.
