Fun in the Sewing Room [Chorus, Elby, Enn]

Postby MrKaffiend » Thu Jun 21, 2012 2:03 am

I recently made a rather snappy pair of corduroy pants for my darling airship pilot, Elby, in an effort to give him a bit of his masculinity back... xDD

Image
A bit high-waisted, but they sit nicely without popping the snap... But they do open a bit too much in the crotchal area. >_> So I added a bit o' decency cover there.

Image
Look at Elby sell those pants! He's such a good model~

Image
They fit, but look a bit silly on my MNF. I couldn't resist making him look like a grumpy old man. Sorry, Narcissus. xDD

Enn makes a brief appearance to show off her red wig. I'm thinking she's more of a redhead than a blondie, but... this is all I got in red. xD (Also, her dress was in need of having the velcro properly applied. Now it is. :D)

Dress AND pants! Much less girlie, Enn.

.... Sorry the doll suitcase threw up on you, Narcissus. D:

enjoy the random~ c:

The pants are very snappy on Elby. That's is the main problem with doll pants, trying to ride the line between too high and too low. That's why Taavi always wears a belt, otherwise his tush would show everytime he sat down. :P I really like that print on Enn's dress and it looks like it's fits her bust really well.

I get random ideas and just... go for it, so I have a bad habit of making nice things... without a pattern to recreate it with. xDD Enn's dress is an example of that. I made it with quilting scraps, so the fabric was already a certain width. I plan on going back and making a pattern for that dress so I can recreate it and hopefully sell it. c: The gathers along the "princess" waistline make allllll the difference fitting her big ol' bust.

I made a pattern for those pants, and I think I got a good medium for the crotch. I'm trying to make the pattern SUPER simple, so the front and back parts are about the same. The waistband makes a big difference when it comes to how it fits in the end, and I always forget to factor it in. xD

Glad you think it looks good! x3 As soon as I have more time for sewing again, I shall give it another go and see if I can get the length and waist height just right. xD

I love Elby!! And the dress is indeed darling! Nice job on Elby's pants, I usually add a second or third snap to pants or even put in a zipper.

Thanks, zirconmermaid!! He's so photogenic and just plain ADORABLE with that big ol' smile. x3

A second snap might have also fixed the problem of decency, but I think it would have popped open when I tried to seat him. I like to put as little stress on my snaps as possible so they don't get all loose. xD And I have yet to find zippers that are quite small enough to consider putting on doll clothes. Dress zippers are close, but they're still a little bulky.

Have you found any good, small zippers for MSD-scale stuff?

I usually buy my doll zippers from volksUSA. They're inexpensive, but the shipping is steep. I think Mimiwoo has some tiny zippers too.

Pants are hard for me. So far I haven't had a lot of success making them right. The crotch closure waistband thing I don't quite get. I ended up making a lot of string top pants just to get my guys dressed. I have used snaps but lately I'm on a button thing. I've had an obsession with buttons since I was little. I used to steal my Mom's button tin to play with. I have this whole tin of crazy colorful tiny little buttons that I found in various places and I'm just going to town making button holes and using them to close things. I totally hate velcro. I'm not fond of hooks. Prefer buttons to snaps. But usually end up combining buttons and snaps in some way. I leave the little zippers to Madam Alex, way too tough for my sewing skill set, lol.
