I learned today how NOT to do it:

I got my first true blue, 100% full BJD: an Iplehouse Carina. She arrived while my wife was at the gym, so I put her together and, not knowing where else to put her, sat her in my wife's chair in our office.

Needless to say, not knowing much about BJDs and walking in to find an Iplehouse EID girl sitting in your chair, calmly looking up to you is not the most ideal introduction!

My whole family and all my friends are creeped out by a majority of my collection (can't blame them; not everyone's a gore/horror fan), so I keep them all in my room. They've all accepted them, they just don't want to be left alone with them (especially Hansel and Gretel XD). I don't mind, even if every time I take them out they ask, "How do you sleep with those things in you room?"
Most of my dolls are scary, but don't worry! They wont bite.

Apparently the biggest thing to help creeped out others is time. Early in this thread I mentioned that the thing that would creep out my fiance is if I started calling them my kids. This is something he's specifically told me in the past. Then last night I was playing around with swapping out eyes on my msds(which turned out really well) and he said "They look good like that. You should post some updates of your babies." O.O

Haha, when my mother made a pair of jeans for my old Ellie, at some point she said something like "Well, you're her mommy, aren't you?". I don't think that way about my dolls at all, so it was rather funny that she should say that :P

Add Tourist Trap, the one with Chuck Connors, to the list of movies not to show dollphobics. Some of us might think twice about it as well.

My dolls are definitely not child substitutes. Not even the kid dolls. They are toys, dolls. I have furballs for that. You want to talk "babies" around here you're definitely talking about the pets, and with me that means my cats. I am a total and unrepentant animal freak. I like them all but particularly cats, and they know it too. ALL cats are babies to me. They all treat me like I'm this big mama cat. My BFF has a cat that hates the universe and barely tolerates anyone it including her. He's grumpy. He's unsociable. He's still half feral. Won't even talk to her half the time let alone sit in her lap or share her bed. I come over and in five minutes that cat just climbs into my lap and turns up his belly and starts purring. Totally ticked her off. I leave he goes back to being a little shit. I come back a few days later he follows me all over the place the whole time I am there and begs me to pet him.

I nearly lost a BFF over that, lol. But I can't help it. I played it cool the second time. Didn't go out of my way to pet him at all. But it didn't matter. He just doesn't like her for some reason. He adores me. It's weird because usually animals do like her. She wanted me to take him home with me. Said I might as well, but I can't. I'm way over the pet limit around here as it is. We already have 2 cats, a dog, a fish tank and a few small critters and we're only supposed to have 2 pets per household. I'm pushing it with the roommate having a pup. But yeah, furballs are the kids around here. I'm not having any human ones but I dote on my fur children. I am totally a crazy cat lady and proud of it too.
