All About Bobobie?

Postby cyanrae » Thu Jun 28, 2012 4:53 pm

Hello, I am relatively new to this forum and so far I just love it! :D

I have a request and a question for all you lovely people out there: Please, tell me as much about Bobobies as you possibly can!

If possible, I would love if someone could answer these questions for me as well:
1. Where can I buy a head for a BBB body?
2. Can they wear other companies heads?
3. Pose-ability? The good bad and the ugly!
4. Best female sculpt? (40 CM!)
5. Clothing sizes!

Thank you in advance, and I hate when people do this, but I will be a hypocrite and say I hope I have posted this in the correct location!
First Resin BJD Birthdate: 8/06/12...She is now for sell. PM for Resinsoul Li (going cheap, negotiable) for sale! (Keep incase fall thru)

Well, since you are looking for a 1/4 scale then I'd say yes, you posted in the right place, but I promise you that here in the Sanctuary we really aren't that fussy about where folks post. I rarely move things and only if I think they'll get better viewing elsewhere :)

In answer to your question

1. Just depends. You can buy doll heads from the manufacturers, second hand on various doll forums, ebay, etc... The real question is more whether a resin color will match the bbb body you've chosen or not and if it will fit. And again, that just depends.

2. Any doll can really wear another company's head, it's more the resin color match that can be an issue. BBB white, for example is REALLY WHITE, whereas Angel of Dream, or Dollzone are more eggshell white. Some companies have Pink Normal or Yellow Normal etc... Probably what you'll want to do is find a head you like and then see if it will work on a BBB/RS body. Or just buy one of their dolls complete - they have lovely faces!
3. BBB/RS are notorious for being floppy - however that is something easily solved by restringing (they don't use very good elastic) and sometimes also "sueding" - putting a bit of hot glue into the joints to increase friction and pose holding. that said, I really don't like how the MSD boy body (in particular), when you sit it down has the knees knock together and the feet spread apart :( I rarely let my BBB boy sit because of this.
4. Since they pretty much all have the same body, it's all a matter of face. Mei is one of the most popular, and if you don't like pointy ears then she comes in a human ear version (whose name I forget).
5. MSD - but that said every maker is different so unless you buy something that has been specifically made for a BBB/RS you may find you need to shorten, or take in or take out etc... Every maker has different measurements so there is always a little give and take on clothing.

BBB/RS are wildly popular for their beauty and their exceptionally fair prices. Great intro dolls for those new to resin and almost everybody except the most snobbish collectors seems to own one :)

I think I have close to 10.

I have a BBB boy Espree, so I can answer some of your questions.

1. Where can I buy a head for a BBB body?

You could ask Junkyspot or Denver Doll Emporium if they will sell just a head. Sometimes distributors will split and sometimes they won't. I know when I wanted the Espree head on a Tony body DDE was really pleasant to work with. Likewise I was able to get a DZ/AoD hybrid from Junkyspot.

2. Can they wear other companies heads?

Most likely. One of the main challenges is matching resin color. BBB white is WHITE, where as other companies are more creamy, or yellowish, or pinkish... I just did a test, and a Luts head goes on with no problems. You just need to make sure the look isn't too bobble-head if that kind of thing bothers you. Some heads are bigger than others, even if they are all 1/4.

3. Pose-ability? The good bad and the ugly!

Ummm... most people need to immediately restring. BBB just doesn't use good (thick enough) elastic. Tightening can help in the short term, but basically you have to restring. Sueding with low temp hot glue also helps... but my boy spends a lot of time sitting. I just don't trust him to stand unattended for long periods of time. He's very pretty, but not the best at holding a pose. My Angel of Dream on the other hand, stood right out of the box and I've been able to get him to lean over his knees, like he's bent over laughing, with no additional support.

4. Best female sculpt? (40 CM!)

Can't help you there... I only have boys so far. Although some day, I will get a Mei...

5. Clothing sizes!

Again... can't help. Besides, I make almost everything my dolls wear. Only things I can't really do are shoes.

Hope some of this helps! ^__^

Probably the majority of us here have bought our Bobobie/Resinsoul dolls from Emory at Junkyspot. He's here in the States, and if a doll is on his website he has it IN HAND (no waiting). He ships and you have it in about a week. Bobobie and Resinsoul are not exactly the same company, but the same company does the manufacturing, so he can get both.

Bobobie comes in many colors of resin; their white is, indeed, PAPER white, but I have successfully deliberately yellowed a head or body to match Dollzone. Their NS is a pretty good match for several other companies' NS.

Posing is a bit stiff. I don't mind, because I don't do photostories to speak of.

There is only ONE female body sculpt in the BBB 40 cm range. So there is no "best" since there is only one.

I am given to understand that there is a BBB female body sculpt and a Resinsoul female body sculpt in the 43-44 cm range, and that the Resinsoul poses better, but I have no personal experience of this.

As for head sculpt, I like all of them; I think some are prettier than others, but that's personal taste. Mei is probably my favorite, but I really like Lan as well.

Bobobie dolls have one body and resin soul has 2 types I believe. So keep that in mind when ordering. I have the Bobobie Sprite. She has different jointing than my friend Resin Soul Yao which looks like most of RS new dolls have this jointing. Sprite has like round balls for her Double joint and the Newer Resin Souls like Yao have more a peanut. I hope that helps a little. Cause both have their advantages and their disavantages.

AlmySidaKay on here has some of the girl sculpts. My favorite is Rong. I love the ears. :3

1- already been answered several times over.

2 - Yes they can. They are pretty decent little bodies. Though, might I recommend 1:4 scale bodies from Fantasydoll? Similar price range, lovely little posers and they come in 6 different colors.

3- From my experiences with Bobobie and Resinsoul dolls... Resinsoul bodies are prettier, but always look like they need to pee really badly. Bobobies tend to look a little clumsier, but once restrung can do some pretty spiffy things.

4- Ariel, Sprite, Espree are all popular. As well as Mei. Pixie's are really cute, though don't trust the company's photos since those look like they were photographed with a fish-eye lens. I'm sure someone else that has had more experience with these companies will be able to tell you more.

5- Look for clothes made to fit a SLIM MSD. These guys are on the slender side. For girls, I recommend Monique's Luvable High Heels in size 64. Those come in 14 colors, are about $10 a pair and fit both Resinsoul and Bobobie girl feet beautifully.

I think Okami and Cirquemom might have slightly more BBB/RS girls then I do. Plus I always get mine on the Resinsoul Rong body instead of the Bobobie body now days. Some times if you are lucky you can find a BBB or RS girl on the second hand market for slightly cheaper than new, otherwise Junkyspot is a great place to look. And then for posing, I had Evie on the original BBB body first when I got her, and if I had realized I could have gotten Rong hands for her and gotten rid of some of the sleeve thing I might have kept her on it. It poses actually the best out of the bodies and mine didn't need any wiring what so ever. (The RS double jointed body coming in a close second). And they can wear most slim msd clothing there weren't too many outfits I had for her that didn't fit both bodies. I also like ken shirts, and even this one brand called hearts4hearts that you can actually get at target. (even the shoes fit from the H4H girls). Oh and I get stuff from Okami because she makes specifically for RS girls.
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.

For matching bodies and heads, BBB/RS natural is a perfect match for Dollzone Natural pink.

I believe the human eared version of Mei is Ya, and the human eared version of Sprite is Espree.

I have an Espree on the immature BBB girl body, which functions really well for my boy character. So far I haven't had trouble with any of the slim msd clothing I've gotten for him but I just ordered some new regular MSD clothing and I suspect it might need to be taken in a bit. I haven't replaced his elastic yet, but he's been tightened and sueded and poses pretty well. He does naturally do the knock kneed thing when sitting but that's something I really love for his character and after he was sueded he can sit without doing that, it just needs a little fussing.

Not to post redundant spam, but here's part of my entry for the headstand challenge, so you can see a little of what the immature girl body can do. For the record, by the time I took these pictures most of his sueding needed to be redone and this only took a little fussing. He's completely free standing. Image

I have one or two of them....

I actually had one more but gave it away to a friend.

I am too lazy to restring mine and just work around their floppiness, which I actually kind of like. Most beautiful sculpt in my opinion is Mei. She is really a lovely little doll. But I love them all. Sprite is also very appealing- she is on the BBB body, which in my opinion is not as pretty as the RS body.

I have a ZILLION BJDs, all different brands, and I have to say for some reason the RS/BBBs are my favorites. Has nothing to do with price, it is the loveliness of their face sculpts. They are just so charming!

NEVER make a decision based on the photographs on their website, which are horrible. If you think you may be interested in a certain sculpt, ask for owner pictures here and on JS and DoA to see what they really look like. They are fabulous little dolls.
