Customizing a C.A. Cupid: My Monstersona

Postby MitisFeles » Wed Jun 20, 2012 6:41 am

Hi all! Maybe I had to post it in "monster mash" instead of opening a new topic, but stating that's a project that will probably take some time I though that was the best choice.

I wanted to "dollify" my Gaia Online avatar, but I had some serious difficulties finding a fitting base doll.

Image

Lots of BJD producers offers antro dolls, but they are all out my budget possibilities (especially the most fitting, like Pipos ones). So, thanks to the CAM sets, I started to think about using a Monster High. Thinking and thinking, I choose Cupid and refreshed my plans.

Image

Sorry for this blasfemity half colored in pencils and half (badly) in photoshop, that's just for showing the color scheme that I have in mind. Some weeks ago, I finally found on EvilBay a naked Cupid at a decent price, and yesterday she arrived home. I'm still wondering how she came intact, because she was in the worst package ever: just a supermarket plastic bag and a paper envelope, with not bubbles or anything!

Image
i didn't ask you a nude photoshot!

What are my projects for her? First, undo her hairdo and let her bangs cover her ears. Second, eliminate the white lace stencil on her hands and legs, leaving only the black. I've already done it on the hands, with simply nail polisher: on the legs I'll probably have to repaint all in black. 3rd: Unfortunately, I fell in love with her eyes, so I'll only change her lipstick to match the one in my drawing, and maybe adding some more pink to her eyelid. 4th: Have for her cat ears and tail. 5th: gave her a proper outfit.

I think this will look very good! Cupid is very lovely to begin with, and you are going to make her even more pretty! <3

My Cupid adventures continue...

Image

Without lipstick, white stencil on hands and hairdo undone.
The stencil on hand was removed with only some acetone, but the one on the legs is really stiff, and I had to paint on it with black acrylic. Here Cupid is waiting the paint to dry, on my work desk. You can see how much I'm disorganized too!

Image

Sky blue lipstick is not definitive: I tried to paint with colors that I already had, but the really cool blue I have didn't match the blue of the eyes. So I'll go next day searching for the exact tone of sky blue in some art supplies shop, hoping to find the right match.

I'm afraid the black acrylic will stain despite being sealed with MSC, so I don't plan to put on her trousers, pantyhose or boots, but to take inspiration from the original lace pattern and paint ribbons on her legs, like boots lace or corsets laces.

Looks like my table. You should be okay with the paint on the hard plastic parts, I've painted enough Mattel dolls in my time and very few have stained.

What about matching her lips to her eye shadow, unless that's what you did.

That's a good alternative, I already have the same pink, in acrylic paint and chalk pastel too. But first I'll check for the exact shade of sky blue in the shop, I liked how the cold shade of lipstick reinforced the hot pink of the hair.

Sorry for the double post. Anyway, here is my Cupid with her new make-up:

Image
Cupid5 di NekoDollieDee, su Flickr

I have found the correct color of lipstick, and shaded it with some pastel dusk. She has some more pink blush on her cheek, but In this photo it's not really visible. I glossed her lips and her eyes too. Arms too have been repainted to have jagged edges like legs, to simulate some kind of fur or strange gloves/boots. Tomorrow I'll do her hairstile. I'll probably cut away her braid...
She is ending to be somekind of Cupid reinterpretation more than an OC... but I'm happy anyway.

Looks awesome so far.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

She's looking good. I'm tempted to try and find lipstick to match my eyes ;)

Looking good so far! I'm glad she survived the shipping disaster. I like matching the lipstick to the eye color, very unusual (in a good way!)
