You did WHAT? WHERE?? HOW??? Share the knowledge or explain once again why we use chalk pastels and not oils.

Cotton gloves.

Yes there IS something that you can paint on your dolls to "bombproof" the faceup.

Minwax Polycrylic Floor Sealer.

It also comes in a spray, but I have not tried the spray yet.

The problem is it doesn't come in a true matte finish. It comes in an almost-but-not-quite matte. So your doll's face will always be shiny. I have not yet tried it with a coating of MSC over the top. I *have* used it on my Dollzone Water Dragon's body painting (because a dragon should have shiny scales anyway) and it wears like...a floor. Seriously bombproof. It is completely safe for resin.

I've used the spray with MSC under it, and it doesn't seem to have any trouble, however, it does chip much more easily. I would imagine that MSC over top would remove the glossy finish, but may have the same problem with decreasing wear-resistance.

The paint on version shows no sign of chipping with MSC under. I think I will stick with the paint-on!

Thanks VV! I actually needed that info too. Maybe now Seona will stop chipping every time I look at him funny. :/

In that vein, is the brush-on version thin enough to not leave brush strokes?

They recommend that minwax stuff in beading as well - to stiffen beaded ornaments :) I love multipurpose products like that!

You're asking the person with the 62-year-old eyes who was already severely myopic before I got Lasik....

Actually this is intended as a floor sealer, so it does tend to "self-level." And I did put it on pretty thick, thick enough to drip a little, so it would do that.

Hehe whoops. ^_^;

Well, thank you, regardless, VV. I'll test it out on a headcap first.

You are going to want to thin the brush on variety. It is pretty viscous. It will thin with a little bit of water. Hot water will mix in faster. I have only used a couple of gallons of the Minwax, but hundreds of gallons of similar products. It can have a very short open time and may not level before it surface drys, especially when used without thinning. Experimentation is highly recommended. You don't have to experiment on a doll or doll part. You could do tests on plastic bottles to get an ides of how much to thin it, how it spreads, how fast it drys, etc.

I have a stash of plastic odds and ends that I haven't thrown away yet; packaging from monster high dolls. I think I'll give it a shot!
