Got Volks'd!

Postby kiki-chan78 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 6:28 am

Yup. Volks.

They pose like crap. At least mine makes Seiki look TALENTED in the posing department... And Seiki's big 'impressive' trick is being able to sit up right. *sigh* This little guy, much like Seiki, is abso-whorisly adorable.

Not a clue to WHAT sculpt he is. Normally on a volks, information like that is on their little head-tag. His tag states that he's a One-off. When I have the old face-up off of him, I'll post photos of the cleaned head on DoA and see if anyone there can ID him for me.

The previous owner nabbed him from Y!Japan Auctions, and said that the face-up he had then looked like a particularly talented four year old with a crayon did it. Because he'd been in pretty dresses for all the photos in the auction, she'd naturally assumed that she was purchasing a girl. Imagine her surprise when she gets her new 'girl', pulls the doll out of the packaging and finds 'surprise!penis' instead. XD

Poor baby was dropped on the DoA marketplace and I nabbed him. ^_____^

Anyway. Here's photos of my new Nicky. Please excuse the crappy photos. My camera was left at Gerry's house, and I've yet to go and grab it back. The camera used in these shots is borrowed from my dad. -_-;;;

I will say the Volks sculpts are always gorgeous. Not my cuppa, except for the SD-17s, but gorgeous.

Normally Volks aren't my style either... this one, is just cute which is a *very* good thing. The only dolls that I've encountered that are even CLOSE to this level of awkwardness at posing is Resinsouls with their constant need to pee. If Nicky hadn't been so insanely adorable, I'd now be looking into getting rid of him. ^.~

I think that with a cute doll, awkward posing can add a lot to the character. Of course it's still a pain in the ass, especially when you're used to the things your dolls typically can do. I'm glad this cutie found a good home. Secondhand markets always make me sad.

He's adorable. If it wasn't for the information how he sucks at posing I would've been fooled. The pics look like he can pose fine....But then again Volks are usually known for just being pretty.

He is way too adorable. I'm not a huge fan of Volks myself - I have never seen a doll they've sculpted that has caught my attention - but I can definitely see why you scooped him up!

This little guy really is one of the most awkward things that I've handled. Period. Seriously, of all the dolls that have passed through my hands, he is pretty much the bottom rung. Even lower on the totem-pole than this guy:

It's starting to turn out that Nicky's 'big trick' is standing. But, he's got a really sweet face. He's also a lot chunkier than I expected him to be. I knew he'd be a little chunk, just... it's really different when the doll is finally in hand. He's just going to be such a sweetie once I re-do the face-up. ^___^

As for the clothes? That's a Luts KDF set that I picked up of the second-hand market as well. It was a REALLY lucky buy since I got it for a little less than retail, AND it was still in it's original packaging. It's a little surprising that the entire outfit fit so nicely! KDFs are tiny little buggers, and Nicky is very much NOT tiny. Thankfully, the pants are made of stretchy fabric!

The other reason I pounced on him, was price. When I first saw his cost, the first thing that went through my head was "What is horribly wrong with the doll?"; second was "Is he stolen?" I talked to the gal selling him, turned out that she just REALLY wanted him re-homed ASAP since NOTHING had been 'right' about him from the get-go. He wasn't the sculpt she wanted, nor skin-tone.... and he was a little boy, not a little girl. So her loss, is my gain. Part of me is still waiting for Nicky to explode. XD

I think there's something about Volks in person that's too cute not to love despite their pose-less-ness...and your new boy is adorable!

He looks an awful lot like Sweet Dream Myu to my relatively untrained Volks eye:

Maybe he was a one-off because he was the boy version of her..?
