oooooh! THAT kind of print! I thought you meant that you rendered the models for finished images that you sold as prints.

that's so awesome! I was hoping the process would become more affordable at some point. What's the cost running these days?

And Omi is adorable! Definitely great posing. Hmm... hard to decide if I should go 50 or 65 cm...
For references lately I've been using a combination of digital models of the body that I sculpted for IMVU for the pose and then I get the mannequin in the same general pose and arrange clothes or cloth on it. But realistic cloth draping is way too time consuming to be plausible in a 3D program, so that's what I need primarily with a real life model. so I'm kind of inclined to go with the larger dolls... would be nice if I didn't need the digital model at all.

Decisions decisions... aaargh!

Price depends a lot on how a piece is modeled out, and what material it's being printed in. Different materials are priced differently. The material that I favor is a white nylon that the company shapeways calls White-Strong-and-Flexible. It's fairly nice, doesn't scratch resin, and has a slight 'give'. Plus, it's also somewhat porous, which means it takes pigments/color like a champ. It also can be sanded.

I tend to be fairly conservative with my models, and work pretty hard to reduce the amount of material needed to create them. Even so, the prices will creep up with larger prints. Here's a shot of a couple of my printed pieces. ^.~







And.... a photo of one of my boys with some 'sci-fi torches'. The one in his hand is a failed experiment. I was trying to pull off something fairly elaborate, and kind of missed my target size by about a millimeter. If it had worked, that sucker would have light up! XD







I'd also seriously suggest going for either the 48cm or the 50cm obitsu. Not that the 65cm isn't a great doll, just that the 'smaller' ones will be able to withstand a lot rougher handling than the 65cm. If you are anywhere near as demanding as I am on my obitsus, you'll definitely appreciate that little extra 'durability'. Though, between the 48 and the 50? I'd go with the 48cm because of the slightly lower center of gravity. Makes for a more stable doll.

thanks for the further advice Kiki! That does make me consider the smaller model even more... would save me a few more bucks too... I'm always jumping the gun, so maybe I should wait till I actually receive the dolls the I already ordered before I decide. That way I can sew clothes and see how they hang at the sizes I already ordered. I'm still waiting for a refund for one of the mannequins I returned anyway. That company is a bit slow.

Actually, Junkyspot just had a restock the other day. If you want total instant gratification, order the obitsu through them. Depending on where you live in the USA, the doll will arrive within the week. I will warn you, nothing, and I mean *nothing* poses like an obitsu. If/when you get one, it will spoil you. ^.~

Obitsus don't come with face-ups, but there's several people on the forum that can accept face-up commissions, or you can do it yourself. There's a list of recommended face-up supplies floating around this forum somewhere.

Thanks for the compliments on the Kusarigama. Those are actually really neat pieces! They've got a working ball-socket on them to provide more mobility.

I made the Kama, then you begged for the kusarigama. I thought that the kusarigama was a good idea, made an 1:3 scale one, and then converted it over to 1:4. The 1:4 chainwhip that you have isn't being sold. I wasn't happy that the jointing kept getting fused. So, that chain whip is truly OOAK. ^___^

Welcome! I'm an old time -n00b- since I never really posted here, but I'm trying to get into this forum more now

I'm an artist too, but I mostly stick to digital painting, pencil drawing, and doll painting. I sometimes venture into watercolors on paper, but I like the medias I default to. Your paintings are lovely by the way.

And listen to Kiki, she knows obitsus like no other! The 50cm is definitely one of the best! I have a 60cm and she's a bit finicky, but I still adore and love her. She's my first doll. By now I'm at 11 (two are floating heads though). I started in the hobby because I thought the dolls were beautiful (and I still think so).
