I have often wondered if the level of imagination in my dreams is related to my creativity and imagination in real life. My boyfriend does NOT dream at all and he's not creative at all. Does anybody know if those things are related..?
And congrats Almy and IzabethS!!
I think it has more to do with your sleep cycles and when you go into REM sleep. If I am awakened too early I may not remember my dreams, but if I am allowed to wake up naturally later in the morning, usually my dreams are in full swing as I awaken, which makes them easier to remember.
Also, I think it depends on how deeply you sleep. My husband often doesn't remember his dreams, but he sleeps like a rock. His head hits the pillow and he is out, and then he is sound asleep all night, and wakes up refreshed and rested and ready to face the day. On the other hand, I have a hard time falling asleep, and waking up is a process that generally takes a couple of hours and can be almost painful. I wake up VERY slowly, thank God for caffeine.
So I think for some people the waking/dreaming states are very separate, but for some of us there is a real overlap between the two and I think that often happens to creative types- or maybe you become creative as a way to deal with it.
