I meant "big" doll, not "bit" doll lol, in case anyone was bothered by that.

Going play with painting her some tomorrow ^_^ Won't be able to do it all in one go though because thanks to the other thread, I found that the sealant that I have will make the vinyl sticky, so I have to wait for my msc to arrive, but I figure I can play lightly with the face a little at least. Will just have to be VERY careful not to let anything I do and like get messed up before it gets sealed.

First thing I did was sew her a bra and panty set, because for some reason my family members are disturbed by naked dolls when they visit...

I don't have a wig for her yet either. She has a 1/3rd size wig plopped on her head for now because I don't like my dolls being bald lol, but I have to wait for my last sunteck order to arrive before she can have hair that fits her right. Probably another week or week and a half... Blah, more waiting, but at least I have the doll! *cuddles dolly* (an extremely abnormal type behavior for me)

Ah, half the reason to have the MSC is to seal the face BEFORE you start working on it. Otherwise you might never get off what you are putting on, vinyl LOVES to stain!!!! Another reason is the MSC gives it 'tooth' so pastel and the like will stick.

Glad your first doll has arrived! ^__^

ack! Ok, guess I won't paint her today after all. Will have to wait for the sealant first. Thanks for the info!

Dirili-san, do you mean the Volks ZM spray? It actually works well on the larger heads for some reason. I've had a problem with it on a smaller 27cm head once, but never on the 60cm heads. It always dries fine for me on both the Obitsu and Volks vinyl heads. (And of course, on all resin heads.)

It's even dried properly most of the time on the smaller 27cm heads, but then that ONE time it did not.....

It made me never want to use it again for those little guys!! :laughs: Maybe I oversprayed it or got too close while spraying and it caused it to be too thick which caused the problem, but it did get sticky! So I told myself, never to use it on the little heads again, even if it was only one out of a hundred that got sticky.

But I've been through at least 50 or more larger heads (1/6, 1/4, 1/3 vinyl and resin) using it and they're all perfectly fine.

I actually prefer its finishing layer to MSC (though MSC is wonderful as well, especially as the base and in between layers), as there seems to be a light powder in it, which gives a really silky feeling to the face/head. (Zoukei Mura Finishing Powder Spray)

You can always try it on the headcap first to see how it reacts for you! ^^

Oh, yes - use at LEAST one coat and preferable THREE coats of MSC before anything touches her face. Then use a coat of MSC periodically between "layers" of work, as well and a couple of coats at the end, of course. Make sure her face is clean and free of skin oils, before applying the MSC also.

Yes SetsunaKou, it's the ZM spray I was talking about. Hmm... so it could be ok on the head, but maybe not the body? Think I WILL try it on the headcap a bit later today! I'll come back with results later.

Kirah, thanks for the info! I had read so much stuff before I even thought about buying dolls, but out of everything I had forgotten that you need to spray a primer layer before starting painting hehe. So glad you all reminded me. Unfortunately I'm sure there are other things I'll have forgotten along the way... I had crammed a lot of information into my brain in the last month...

Well this is interesting! I was just going to post that the ZM spray was still sticking on my Obitsu, but I just checked again one last time to make sure and it's dry! So it took a veeeery long time to stop being tacky, but it did eventually... at this point I think it's been 8 hours. When I had checked after 3 hours it was still tacky, so it dried somewhere between 3-8 hours.

WOW! That is a long time! It dries completely when I use it within half an hour or less!!! 0_o
I'm in Florida, so it's pretty high humidity here, too. Now that I think about it, I believe OkamiKodomo-san (also in Florida) also has no problems with it drying.

I wonder what the reason could be why it's so fast drying here, but took so long for you!

But the good thing is that at least it finally dried for you!! ^^

I honestly prefer ZM, because it seems to give a better tooth with fewer coats. But then I primarily work with resin, not vinyl. I have noticed an odd sheen with my monster repaints, but no sticky feeling o.o
