A lot of matte sealers/fixatives have material in them that makes them flat, not glossy. This material is often not entirely transparent and can tone down and blend colors. It usually isn't noticeable till the spray really builds up. It's not necessarily a bad thing and you can use it to your advantage. Also some colors lose some of their pop when they dry completely.

Ah thank you, that really explains some things. I felt like she looked really really different the next day. Maybe I'll try going brighter and heavier with my next project.
