Delilah, Daisy, and a Closet Full of Doll Shoes....

Postby magkelly » Thu Oct 04, 2012 3:43 pm

Supposedly the clothes and the high heeled shoes from the Willow and Daisy doll from Knickerbocker are nearly an exact match so I took one of my Daisy dolls and I went through the boxes of doll shoes and I started trying to see what might fit my two Delilah dolls. Much to my surprise I found a lot more than just the pairs of Willow and Daisy shoes that would likely work. So far we have 12 pairs of rubber sneakers in various colors. (From what doll I do not know.) 7 pairs of Willow and Daisy shoes and boots. 2 pairs of transparent colored platforms (No clue as to what doll they were on originally.) and a pair of flat boy type dress shoes in black that I got with a sideshow Frankenstein. Oh, and the bad pair of Arwen boots that I laced up the back so I could get to use them somehow? I think they will likely fit them because as it turns out Arwen's boots are a bit bigger than her feet! Seeing that I'm wondering if her extra flat feet will do. Can't wait to try!

Yup, D&D is stone corpse gray. She's totally adorable but it's pretty strange. PIP is really, really cute too. I had a hard time putting on the D&D shoes. I took them off to check out her legs and I ended up taking off the straps afterwards. No way I can manage them all the time. Worse buckles ever. Even with tweezers I just could not manage them. I did change out the eyes. D&D has Liv Katie green eyes now. They look really great with her goth hair, eye liner et all. I thought they would. I'm glad I was right. I put the Sophie blue ones in the PIP doll but I'm not totally taken with that pairing. I may swap hers out for something a bit more interesting.

I also replaced the blond wig with a dark auburn mohair wig that was the right size. The original wig is okay but it's not all that great. The D&D one is much nicer, softer. I think the auburn is a really nice match with her factory face up. Probably I'll be redoing that a bit. She's really sweet looking but she could use a bit of color or something. She's looking quite blah compared to the pics I have seen of her.

D&D needs some black nails too. I thought hers were supposed to be but they are PIP's pink. I really, really love these dolls though. I know I'm supposed to put these back up in the boxes for Halloween/Christmas, but I don't want to!!!!! :P

I have a Dark and Defiant (or two) as well - have to confess I hate the pink nail polish and toenail polish. I also hate the default shoes she came with. I had heard once that Ellowynne shoes will fit Delilah, so I bought a pair of boots off of Ebay for mine. They fit....with a bit of coaxing. I don't think they will ever come off though hahahahaha. they look a hell of a lot better with the outfit though. I've also redone her wig - took out the pink and sewed in some white instead. Just need to trim and restyle and mine is done at last!

I also have the Steampunk Delilah....the hat is terrible looking so I'm making mine a new one.

D&D's feet might be just slightly bigger and wider I think than the PIP doll. Not sure but I'll know later. I haven't tried all the same shoes on her as yet. I got tired after playing with PIP all afternoon and needed to quit for a while but I'm actually finding that a lot of shoes are fitting PIP. More than I thought would actually. I've got gray Tonner boots for Arwen (Which are the same as the regular Tyler line's swap fashion heel/flat foot dolls. ) that fit, albeit a bit tightly. Probably couldn't put her in them with tights, but they work on PIP otherwise.

I've got 12 sets of rubber sneakers and several pairs of rubber platforms from larger unknown play dolls that work. Teen Trends shoes are way too big and Ken shoes are too small, but my Sideshow Monster dress shoes work. (That's what she's wearing now actually as loafers with the outfit I put PIP in.) I've got several pairs of what I believe are slightly larger Tonner, Kingstate or Wakeen Eve pumps and sandals that work. Most rigid Gene and Alex shoes don't work well, but even with those there are a few exceptions. I managed to get a pair of silver and gold stretch sandals of Gene's on her though I didn't expect them to fit at all as most of the official sandals have the wrong arch.

Daisy and Willow shoes do work just about perfectly and FYI, it doesn't seem to matter all that much if the shoes are flat or heeled so long as they are not rigid. She looks just fine in her dress flats. Like they were made for her and her own feet are flat. In fact, in the flat sneakers I found she will stand on her own. I was so worried about needing a pair of her flat feet to change out? Not really necessary though I did get her feet off just fine earlier at one point. I ran hot water over them just to be safe but no problems with PIP anyhow.

Arwen's feet do not fit well unfortunately. I tried them just to see. They're a good match for the ankles in size if not color, but the joining pegs are much smaller. I probably could jury rig them maybe, use tape, but since her own feet seem to work in almost every shoe I tried on them heels and flats I'm probably not going to go there. The only thing I could not get to work was the groovy clear colored rigid plastic platforms. Right size, perfect actually, but she'd have to be wearing her actual flat feet to make it happen. (I sure wish I knew what doll those came off of. I love them and would grab more if I could if they came in more colors. They look like something Blythe would wear only they're way too big.)

Shoe problem? What shoe problem? I could change PIP's shoes every day for a month I think before I had to repeat myself. Looking at D&D's feet I think they might present a bit more of a challenge but I'll figure it out. Or I'll just make her more shoes. I had to do that with my 18" Kitty Collier because buying shoes for her was just cost prohibitive. I've learned I've just got to sew when it comes to her. I like my big Kitty but any outfit or shoes I can find for her costs almost more than she did. Even the generic shoes online are $20 a pair. Ouch! I've made her two simple pairs so far out of leather and cork. Casting resin shoe bottoms so far doesn't seem to be my forte, laugh, but I'm doing the carved and stacked heels bit okay so far.

None of my dolls is going to lack for shoe changes though if I can help it. I have a rule that there has to be at least 3-4 pairs for every doll that fit. Most of my dolls they share the 3 or 4 sizes of feet and it's no problem. They usually have boxes full of shoes to fit. So far the only dolls I've ever really had to struggle to find shoes for are Kitty and this one rather bizarre bodied Butterfly Ring doll my aunt bought me. I'm about to rebody her on an Alex body actually if it will work. She's just too weird for me on her own with her emaciated wasp waist and complete lack of rib cage. Delilah Noir? She looks to be a lot easier than some dolls. But I guess having more doll shoes than Imelda Marcos had real ones probably helps, grin. I can sit just there all afternoon, try them all until I find something. With that many shoes something is bound to fit, right?

I never throw out doll shoes. Even if they come in some junk box sans a doll or with kid or porcelain dolls I don't like and won't keep I save them because you just never know. The doll may go but the shoes stay. My MT's they have shoes from dolls I've never even had and from dolls I didn't want. BF Madame Alexander kid dolls? I had no use for them or for shoes from the Harumika mannequins. I never got into either of them, but I found a use for their shoes. Same with Stardoll by Mattel. Useless bodies on those dolls, but my MH kids sure are enjoying their shoes....

I can't speak for Ellowyne, don't own one, but I'm certainly finding a lot of regular Tyler shoes that seem to be working so if her feet are similar I'd say try it. She has some really cool outfits that doll. They're supposed to fit too but they're pretty expensive and I can't really go there.

As to wigs....

So far I've found the wigs off the Brass Key Princesses I had are perfectly sized as are some 7-8 wigs off of porcelains and the like. But nothing from the MT's, Tonner's etc works. Her head is definitely a 7-8, not a 5-6. Even an 8-9 might work depending upon the wig. I also take the heads off of Ty girls turn them into wigs. They have lousy, fly away hair but I do love the color mixes sometimes. They fit her pretty well and are rather like putting fur wigs on I'd guess. I have a dozen choices there but so far I think I like the dark auburn one the best. She's got a very delicate face PIP and too much bright color just seems to overpower her. Her outfit was the same way.

It's nice but she just kind of fades into it I think. I'm not too sure I am going to be keeping that, at least not all of it. I like the heeled sneaks, the leggings, love the ferret, but the rest I'm kind of not as much into. The shirt and bag, too anime and cutsey for me. The skirt is nothing different than 10 other skirts I own and I do not like the jacket at all. The rabbit ears, it's all just way too silly for me. Right now I have her in a gray and black paid skirt, gray Ken top, and the black loafers. Looks great with the wig. I do want to add some paint to her next few days but I need to hit Micheal's and look for some better sealer first. She's just too washed out compared to D&D. I know she's supposed to be the "normal" one but she's just not that interesting in terms of her face up.

Yeah, D&D's feet are definitely a whole other thing from PIP's. They're just a bit wider but they're about 1/4 or so bigger which means a lot of the shoes that PIP fit into she just doesn't fit at all. The larger sneakers work and I've got a pair of purple Teen Trends boots that will work tied up even though they are big but no Tonner stuff fits and even some of the Daisy and Willow shoes didn't quite work on D&D because her ankles are thicker than PIP's are. The slides work and I think the white lace boots will but not the pink strap mod shoes and the black mod ankle boots I have don't work well either. I had read that PIP was a lot smaller but now that I see the two dolls together I can see what they meant. PIP is pretty much Tonner sized. D&D is bigger in the waist, behind and legs. What fits PIP's rear just fine is actually a bit tight on D&D. She can wear the gray outfit I made but it's not the best fit. I have more of that material. I think I am going to have to make her a bigger skirt. She can't fit into Arwen's boots at all either.
