I would see them on lolita/doll/miniature forums and sometimes when doing general crafts searches on flickr and etsy etc. At first I would only see the expensive ones, so I wasn't that interested beyond eye-candy. Then, I don't remember how but I found Junkyspot and dolls that didn't cost more than our monthly salary, so I got a Bobobie. That was about 2 1/2 years ago.

I have been playing with dolls and collecting them since I was a kid. I have started caring more for them few (?) years ago when Barbie Fashionistas showed up in Lithuania. Then Liv happened and then I learnt about BJDs. I have been interested in BJDs for about two years, I think... But I own one only since May.

I absolutely hated dolls as a kid, whenever I got given a doll by my friends mothers because that's what "normal little girls should play with" I'd always smile unhappily - and they'd sit unopened in their boxes. Seriously Lion King action figures with "real biting action" and Power Rangers were so much better!

Realised that it was the articulation that did it - I discovered Figmas when I was a teen, and collected a few of them (most now sold on sadly - really regret selling my 1st Sabre...) Loved the accessories and the way they mostly accurately reflected the characters. I stumbled across a bjd whilst looking at figmas - and was fascinated by the way they're almost completely customisable and the beautiful aesthetic, but the price tag was a massive stumbling block.

I've really been interested in the hobby for the past 4 years, but only gathered the courage (and funds!) to actually buy one this year, though my 1st foray was my poor little 27cm obitsu who is now 3 years old and showing it - he likes to loose his left leg every so often and no amount of nail varnish can fix it! He's also on his 2nd head - my 1st attempt at a mod was an umitigated disaster! But I still love the poor soul.

Drax is my 1st bjd - and after a few hiccups getting to know what a heavy resin lump of a doll can and can't do I love him every bit as much as I thought I would! And have already pre-ordered 2 more despite the fact that my funds aren't at their strongest this year... Yeah dolliehs are like crack

I have played with dolls since I was a little girl with a crapton of Barbies. (I had almost as many Batman and X-men action figures as I did Barbies dolls, though, lol.)

When I was 14 I decided I was too old to play with dolls, and all my Barbies and stuff went to my younger cousins... at 15, I discovered anime and began to collect anime figures and dolls...

Obitsus/BJDs came into my life about a year and half ago, when I was looking for a wig to replace the hair on a Queen Beryl doll that I'd gotten in an ebay lot. The previous owner had replaced her original hair with a terrible purple wig. I knew doll wigs must exist, because that one existed... so I looked for "doll wigs" on ebay... and in the course of my browsing, I discovered Obitsus and BJDs...

And soon after that, I ordered my first Obitsu from Junkyspot... then Clover happened and the rest is history

I've been in the resin hobby since mid 2008. However I saw pictures of dolls on google around 2004. They were mostly Volks and DOD dolls =) I fell in love with them, but could not buy them at the moment. Four years later, one of my sisters shared the BlueFairy website and I got sucked in ^^ I started researching about them, because I knew they were pricey and I wanted to make the right decision. Joined DoA and spent months browsing the threads before purchasing my first doll (which was actually a gift to said sister). My real first doll was just a head I bought from the MP =), a Luts 08 man head.

I've been in the resin BJD hobby for about a year now. I ordered my first one around this time last year. Before that I had two big Obitsu girls, before that I had smaller Obitsu girls, before that I had Moxie Teenz and before that... yeah, it all started when I went back to collecting 6" vintage Pamela Love dolls from my childhood. I have over a 100 of those. When I joined the Dollieh Sanctuary and other doll forums/groups online, I found out about the existence of other dolls. Vowing to myself I'd never spend more than $50 on a doll. LOL. Ahem. Never say never... I fell in love with resin BJD in July 2011 at Dolliverse, a Dutch BJD convention, and ordered my own a few months later when I could afford it . And now... it's a story that will probably never end. My collection had evolved and is still evolving.

For dolls in general, I liked a lot of dolls as a little kid but had felt too old for Barbies once I was 9 or 10. When I was 8 my older sister and I dyed and cut our Barbies' hair. We called the process "Funkifying" since they ended up with multi-coloured hair, short hair and/or modifed clothing. When I felt I had outgrown Barbies I still liked dolls so I started getting Groovy Girls. I only gave them away this year to the child of a family friend. I had a collection of McDonalds Furbies that I started collecting when I was 6 but I gave them all away except for my first about 2 or 3 years ago. I wish now that I had kept my Gymnastic Stacie for any kids I may have in the future. She was incredibly articulated.

As for BJDs, I got into the hobby back in 2006. It's been a very long time. My older sister had seen them online, I don't know where, and told me all about them. When her doll arrived, I loved the idea of making a custom doll and the posebility. That summer she found an inexpensive mini and we discussed whether I thought my interest in them would last. I was pretty sure it would so I asked my parents' if I could have the doll as combined birthday/christmas present.

Six years later, I have 5 BJDs and a greater appreciation for dolls of all kinds.
