1948-9

They're too sexy for their clothing - but they have to wear them anyway! Did you buy it? Did you make it? Who cares - let'm strut their stuff here!

1948-9

I need to make her a white handbag so I guess it is not REALLY done yet...

Image

The dress (1948 pattern I scaled myself) and hat are made of a rather stiff silk twill. It has a nice smooth finish.

The belt is double fold bias tape folded again and stitched.

The hat band is rayon hem tape since I thought that grosgrain ribbon might be too heavy. The hat is self-lined. I used a hat pattern from 1949 that I think was my grandmother's. I scaled it down to 39% which worked out perfectly. The bottom right is a different way of wearing the hat - higher on the head.

The necklace is sort of a temporary idea. It is just strung on thread and made from some plastic beads I saved years ago from a yard-sale find.

I would like the waist of the dress to be just a tiny bit lower - better for 1948/49 style.

Lovely job. I really like it, but I'm wondering does she have a slip under that? You might want to go there or maybe wrap her in saran if she's going to stay in it. Red is an awesome color but it can stain badly...

Thanks for the tip. I generally don't leave the dolls in colored clothes. This was a prototype garment. I'll line or face the 'real' ones if they are of a strongly colored cloth.

Another winner. She looks so elegant and put together. The hat, belt and necklace are the perfect finishing touches. I love the idea that the white accessories could be used on other outfits, just like a real 1940's woman would do.
