Picked up my doll modeling project, working on making a relatively inexpensive printable doll the size of a lusion jude..

No car, no friends who can visit, just a crochet hook...


And the lye is doing a great job melting the dresser paint. The yellow and off white is what is was when I first got it.


So if you're stuck in a confined space, open windows and circulate the air any way, anything with a high lye content will help get paint off wood. You still have to scrape but it's a lot easier and nicer to be around than regular paint stripper.

I've been working on my hobby room all day... and one of the things I did, was pimp my new crafting desk by spray-painting pieces from Korean newspapers all over it. ^^ I'll post a pic here tomorrow. Yay for Asian sellers who protect their dolls by adding newspapers to boxes ^^. They make my desk look cool instantly.

I rewrote a pattern for a Barbie shrug to make a shrug for Myri-first try-the size is okay, but the thread was too heavy.

Bad Candy. Inexpensive, printable doll, the size of a Lusion Jude? I don't know what your definition of 'inexpensive' is... but, it'll be cheaper to just get the doll from Dollmore.

Seriously, there is nothing 'cheap' about 3D printing. A good example is my Alice. The 1:6 scale version, was around $200-$250 to print. The 1:3 scale version is going to run around $600-$1,000, and she's only 56cm tall. There's a reason you only see *small* dolls being printed and sold as final products for beacoup bucks.

Speaking of printed dolls... working hard on the 45cm. ^____^

By inexpensive, I mean cheaper than getting a workshop set up to cast in resin, I'm looking at the overall costs.

Right now I have a 1/3 head ready to print thats going to cost around 30$. I'm currently cranking on my 1/3, Eve.

Printing: Domestic or professional rapid prototyping. My hunny has a printer, but I like the results from shapeways machines better. (His printing platform is a bit small for anything bigger than 1/6.) We're huge proponents of the maker community. I've been working on this doll since last year, and have only had the drive to pick it up again recently.

Or if you don't have access to the computer stuff the book Pop Sculpture helps you through the old fashioned hand casting route. I wonder how far I could get on projects with one of those printers? I want to live closer to other doll people.

Magkelly. We are talking about modeling something out on the computer, and then having a physical copy made by a 3D printer. In my case, I do take mine to a resin stage. Here's a shot of a set of my boys that started in the computer, and ended up resin:







Here's the progress shots of my girl Alice, who I'm still ironing out a couple of 'issues' with. But there are a few shots in there of her print version.



BadCandy. Trinity Jude is 105cm tall. Still, it's your project. Good luck with her.

Kim. Some really neat stuff can be done with printers... but, to start, you have to be able to dedicate time to learning the programs. The 3D programs themselves are insanely frustrating. If I hadn't had such an awesome professor for this (and willing to continue fielding my questions once I graduated), I'd be doing something completely different right now. ^.~

I know computers are cool, I can teach myself just about any program I have access to, it's just not possible to get one or a computer that could handle it at this moment. Some day though...

Working by hand has taught me a lot, I haven't even made someone who can free (outside of a partially jointed horse bum for Roger) stand yet but I'm getting closer.
