That's neat - I don't know much about her except peripherally as a dress maker around here but even the gaudy dresses for the gypsy stuff is well made and very intricate.

Ah, that show....brings back memories....lol I watched the entire original series on 4OnDemand when I had the flu a couple years ago. It was interesting and crazy all at the same time.

Just saying, It's like jersey shore for us. For reference. Most of the families on those shows are not actually Roma or Sinti. (And don't represent the majority of us.)

Are the gypsies on those shows more like the Irish Traveler people? I don't know much about any of them except that they stopped calling them Irish and just call them Travelers.

Amish, Mennonite, Hutterite, early Pennsylvania colonists, I think those are modern sub sects of a reform movement started several hundred years ago. They came to the US for the religious freedom and TV producers flock to anyone who they can exploit. I got that feeling from "doll documentary" people who were just starting to contact me, it just didn't feel like a good idea.

there are alot of amish mennonite in ohio, even pretty close to where I'm living now to the point alot of the businesses (including our walmart!) have places for the buggies to be hitched up.

There are still hitching posts in a lot of the smaller towns around here. But usually for trips to Walmart and such the local Amish get rides from farmers. A friend was having the Amish rebuild their garage after a fire (they had already had them out to expand their barn), the younger guys would sneakily turn the radio on when the older gentleman who was their foreman was away. They also had a blast riding the four-wheeler up and down the hill. ^_~ Apparently if the vehicle is owned by someone else, they can use it.

Alot of them are travelers or offshoot families that Don't actually have enough blood to be roma or sinti. Like people with a drop of cherokee who claim to be "soo indian". Travelers are very different from us. In other news we finally got our own halocaust memorial. After everyone else including the gays...
