Hurricane Check-in

Postby Greyhaunt » Tue Oct 30, 2012 7:52 am

I'm really hoping that all of our members and their families in the affected states are safe and dry today after that horrible storm! I know that many will be without power, but when you can, please reassure us - even if you are in a part of those states that didn't get hit because some of us are geographically challenged and figure if you are in NJ or NY etc... then you must be affected.

And those of you getting snow, please stay warm and safe!

My thoughts and prayers have been with you since yesterday, and remain with you today.

Thanks for the check in, Greyhaunt! My family and I are ok and with power (miraculously). We live on the north shore of Long Island, but on high ground. Most of the rest of the Island wasn't so lucky, with power outages, flooding, downed trees and power lines.

I hope everyone else is safe!

We're ok here :) We just got power back a little while ago and it's calmed down a bit outside-still windy and rainy, but the trees are no longer bending sideways.

Cleveland got hit with it pretty hard last night, (I NEVER thought we'd have a hurricane actually hit NE Ohio lol). Twenty foot waves on Lake Erie and 70mph wind gusts starting at around midnight. I guess some places south of us got snow..?

Work last night was a little hairy-the power went off 6 times and we had some window rattling that scared my students pretty baddly, (I'm not sure if I'll be going in to teach tonight or not-it depends on the power situation I guess)

Here's hoping the rest of the people affected are doing as well, (especially everyone on the coast!!). Stay warm and dry and safe everyone!

Nothing too major here, just rain and wiiiiiiiiiiind. It's snowing in the mountains, I think they said they have a foot already. I'm still baffled that it was 80 on Wed and today a week later it's 43 haha.

I hope that everyone is safe!

I'm in north central PA, on the border with NY. I got really lucky, power flickered a couple times in the evening but came right back on and was on all night. I had everything ready for flooding, but fortunately didn't have a basement full of water like I have in the past. We had school (many districts in the area closed or was on delay) but we kind of had to come in... we were talking to the International Space Station via HAM radio today!!!!! Rescheduling would have been a nightmare.

I am glad to hear from those who have checked in-it is amazing how different areas are affected. I remember getting the effects of Katrina in the Dallas area.

Lucky here too. Just a little blink in the electricity and a few downed branches but nothing major at all for anyone in my family. Apparently my parents picked a good area to live in hehe. The bad stuff that happens all around us never actually seems to hit us. *again knock on wood*

that wind and rain was pretty crazy though!

Considering that here in the Atlanta area we have had 3 days of sharp winds and nasty gusts, I can only begin to imagine what y'all have been dealing with. That neighborhood (in Manhattan I think) that lost 80 houses to fire .... it hurts my heart to think what the families will return to and all of the pets that may have been left behind ..... :(

Surely they were warned early enough to evacuate that they were able to take their pets with them? :(

Not all evacuation centers accept pets and not all people have the ability to take pets with them if they do go somewhere. While it's heartbreaking to think, I'm sure there were pets, as well as people, still in some of those homes - although according to the news last night they believed they had managed to evacuate all the people who were in danger from the fire.
