Soom Idealian Zinc

Postby Tahlise » Sun Nov 04, 2012 1:40 pm

Not sure this is the right place for this, but I think he's a bigger doll. I've never had a Soom anything bafore. Anyway, I was looking around, sad that I missed all the cool MDs from Soom and I saw Zinc the blonde demon. Holy crud he's awsome! Looks nicely sculpted. But pricey. So my question is, how are the dolls from Soom? They worth the price? And what size would Zinc be? He's a Idealian 51. I might get him in a christmas kit they are offering. Does he come with random eyes? It doesn't seem like it. So I'm guessing I'm getting the nude, bald, eye-less doll? lol. And does Soom offer layaway? I looked on the site and couldn't find anything about it. Just want to know what I'm getting into. I know buying limited special editions like him can be a slippery slope.>< I just seem to have a taste for the unusual and the ones they only make as special edition ><

Information here:
http://dollsoom.com/eng/shop/item.php?it_id=1351753994
You can look at the "about" and "idealian 51" tabs at the top to see more detailed info about 51 bodies.

51 Idealians are 51cm tall.

Honestly I think Soom dolls are totally overpriced, but I bought a Hyperon anyway.

Whether it's worth it or not is subjective. Depends on how picky you are about different things. Personally it bugs me that the knees and ankles are too thick and the arms are too skinny. Plus I don't like the feet sculpts and the hands I'm kind of iffy about. Love the torso though and a lot of Idealian heads are really beautiful.

Did somebody say Zinc? :)

Soleil, my first and only Soom boy I just couldn't pass up on. Layaway is a beautiful thing? lol The first centaur they released (Epidos?) I didn't like, because his human torso was WAY too big for his horse body. He was out of proportion and always reminded me of a gorilla with arms too long. But Zinc was redesigned and they used an Idealian 51 torso instead of the larger torso (70?), which is just a bit taller than MSD. He takes a size six/seven wig, the same as my YO-sized and smaller MSD dolls.

Quality wise he is excellent. I think he is beautifully sculpted, and I like the jointing in his arms and also the horsey body. Best thing, he has a FULL human torso (bits and all!), so if I ever manage to track down a pair of white skin human legs, I can remove him from the horsey body and make him human.

Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Well, that's a matter of opinion. I personally think that yes, this boy was worth every cent I spent on him. He really was no more or less expensive than some of the other companies out there. Given how much extra resin he has, I thought he was pretty well-priced (a little over $600 for the basic doll; a Fairyland Feeple65 base doll is actually more expensive). It's all his options for clothes and faceup and blushing and such that drove it up but if you customize your own dolls, you don't need all those options anyway.

Thank you Dirili :) I didn't see that before XD So he is 51cm.

And oh wow! Stormlight, your doll is gorgeous!!! I love the centaur. And I plan to do my own face up and stuff so I will just be buying the doll. So Soom does have layaway? Where do you find it on the site?

The only resin dolls I have to compare him to are my resinsoul boys. I have two Juns and a Ming. What kind of clothes would a Idealian 51 be able to wear, out of curiosity?

Ummm ... I don't dress Soleil in anything other than his outfit, but I'd say due to his size, probably clothes for smaller, slimmer SDs. MSD clothes would be too small. He's kind of one of those difficult, in-between sizes. But he'd look a little silly in normal shirts and sweaters, anyway, so mine wears fantasy-looking stuff or none at all. lol

As for ordering, unfortunately, Soom Zinc was limited to an ordering period of a month, like all of their Centaur dolls, so he's no longer being produced. The only place you can get him now is the secondhand market, but good luck finding one that doesn't have the price inflated way up.

If you really want a Soom centaur, all I can say is keep a close eye on their website and hopefully down the line they'll release another one. They'd released a tanned one after Zinc, but I missed the ordering period for him. He was quite pretty, too.

An excellent way to know when SOOM (or for that matter any doll company) is releasing something new is to keep up with BJDCollecstacy http://www.bjdcollectasy.com/. They are an excellent source for new release news, and in my mind better than DoA because they do not "discriminate" against American made dolls or other BJDs that don't meet their standards.

Pretty sure she was looking into the new Zinc blond demon on the Idealian website that is coming up in the Christmas event that she mentioned in her original post, not the centaur.

yes, Soom does do layaway but I don't know anything about it myself. I'm sure you can find links on their pages about it or at least in their FAQ.

No clue about clothes, because I make all my own and never clothes shop. But they list measurements so you can compare his measurements to other dolls' measurements and see which ones would be comparable for clothes. The Soom guys tend to be more muscular than most sculpts so it can be a hard match. Some Iplehouse SID or EID clothes might match them girth-wise but you might need to hem them for height difference.

Thanks, everyone. So helpful :)

Stormlight- I am still kicking myself for not knowing about Soom sooner so I could have had a chance at one of those centaurs >< Maybe they'll make another someday? I love fantasy dolls. They are my weakness. lol

Greyhaunt- Thanks I got that in my faves:)

And Dirili, I looked for info on the layaway plans. I couldn't find it. The Q&A is password locked for some reason. So that's confusing. I have an account too 0.o So I'm gonna try and email them like I did with Impldoll. Still waiting on a reply with them ><

But the more I look at him, the more I want him. The Christmas kits, you have to string the doll yourself. Is that hard to do?

Not the Q&A, the FAQ.
The Q&A is where you go to ask the company specific questions yourself and they keep those private so other people can't read your questions.
FAQs are "frequently asked questions".

Restringing a doll... the difficultly depends on the doll and who's doing it. I HATE restringing dolls, but it's a necessary evil for me because I have to blush everything and that requires disassmebly lol.

It's not quite so bad if you have the right tools or some good makeshift ones. I use a long piece of twist tie for threading the string through long parts and you need some strong cylindrical things that won't break to anchor one side of a string while you finish the other. I use the handles of my old paint brushes. Like if you're stringing the arms, you use the brush handle to hold the elastic on the wrist of one arm while you're finishing stringing the other. The reason you do this is because when you're pulling the string through it can take a lot of pressure and cause the S-hook to make an indent in the resin. Once you get the first hand strung, you just pull the string with the brush handle (or whatever you choose) out a little enough to string the 2nd hand and then remove the handle. Make sure to use plastic or something that won't break. I used a chopstick once and it snapped on me. Luckily no damage to the doll, but it was annoying.

A hook on a handle similar to the traditional stringing tools is good to have particularly for when you put the head on. You have to string the legs pretty tight or your doll won't be able to stand. So once the stringing is complete it's pretty tough to pull the head's S-hook up to put your head on and that's where the tool comes in handy.

Also keep in mind it's best to keep the knots inside the chest because it can be pretty hard to get them into and out of the head if you ever plan on changing it or re-facuping or anything.

Ah, I found some info on layaway. lol Not enough, but some. I wrote a question to them XD

And stringing sounds like it may be annoying but necessessary. >< Also, Zinc has no S hook 0.o and he has like a brain in his head. See? http://dollsoom.com/eng/shop/content.ph ... _body_head and http://dollsoom.com/eng/shop/content.ph ... Idealian51

He's going to be strung totally different than any doll I have XD His head is way different than any doll I have. Of course, I don't have a variety. Just Resinsoul and Hujoo. But he's even way different than any doll I've seen 0.0
