Elfdoll head sizes vary like crazy....

Postby Dirili » Sun Nov 04, 2012 1:42 pm

So when I found out that Elfdoll periodically releases their stuff, I decided I would eventually get a Soah since she was the first bjd head I ever saw and liked. I couldn't resist getting a Yuan and a Rita too while I was at it. They are so beautiful!

But it's crazy how different the sizes are! Especially how huge the Soah head is... it's so big that it's kind of squished from the side view, I'm assuming so that she can still fit the same size wigs. My Iplehouse EID Asa is my biggest doll at 65cm and Soah looks waaay too big for that body. Even Yuan looks a bit too big for it.

Guess I'm going to have some floaters for a while.

Holy crow o.O Thanks for the heads-up (so to say)! I've got a Yuan on the way too but she'll definitely remain floating for a while, can't afford her body yet ... good thing I didn't get her as full doll, she would've looked super weird on the (already weird) Elfdoll body.
You don't happen to have an SID body? I'd love to see if Yuan could work as an SID hybrid ...

No sorry :( I don't have an SID female, just a male.

And congrats on your Yuan! She's gorgeous isn't she?! I love when head sculpts have textured lips and the little mouth part is so sweet.

I find these pictures amazing. I have a Soah and if anything her head is on the smaller side for an SD sized doll. She can wear a stretchy 7/8 wig. So it surprises me that her head is bigger than the other sculpts! It certainly doesn't LOOK big when on her body.

I found that out the hard way, too! I bought the Elfdoll 'Mir' sculpt and it's a perfect SD sized head. Yay. (I need all the heads to be similar sized, because they're part of a 'seiyuu' group where the dolls are all in scale to each other.)

Then, I saw an Elfdoll Won head that I thought would be great for a particular seiyuu. I bought it, never even IMAGINING it wouldn't be the right size. It's SD after all, right?

Wrong! When I received him, he was super, super tiny! I couldn't use him at all! It was more like an MSD sized head.

So, then I resold it, and looked around some more. Elfdoll has a lot of Asian looking sculpts, so I ended up liking the 'Wu' head next. But now, I was paranoid it too would be too small!!!

I asked the seller if the Wu was more like the Mir size or the Won size. (Luckily, she had owned all three at one time!)

She said it was more like Mir, though not quite as large.

I figured, it's as good as I'm going to find, so I risked it.

Thank goodness, Wu IS a decent sized SD. A TEENY bit smallish, but hardly noticeable.

I just couldn't believe the 'Won' head---so small!

The same thing happened with Angelsdoll, too. I bought 2 heads (both SD) and when I got them one was gigantic and the other almost MSD sized. ^^;;

So I guess, even within companies, the head sizes can vary!

wow cirquemom, I wonder if they are making the Soah heads larger now for some reason. Even though the neck hole is too small for the Iplehouse EID body, Soah still looks a bit big for it.

Yuan looks like the perfect size to fit the EID body while Rita looks slightly too small.

That's crazy Setsuna! Sucks about the first experience, but good about the 2nd.

I wonder if this is why Elfdoll isn't more popular? Maybe lots of people have had problems with inconsistencies.

Isn't this sort of natural though? I mean, real people all have different proportions; even two people who are the same height might have different sized heads. I can see where it would be frustrating though, if you had expected it to be larger or smaller.

True, but it would be nice if on their product pages they could show you the head/body ratio better so we would have a better idea of what we're getting. After getting these heads I went back and looked at the pictures again and it feels like the clothes mask the ability to gauge.

Mostly I'm just disappointed that Soah's head is so big yet the neck hole is so small... I mean I don't mind modding usually, but the Rainy bodies are only 58cm tall, so I definitely didn't think she'd look so huge on a 65cm Iplehouse EID body...
