I'm falling apart right now.

My dog is a master escape artist and she broke her chain and then proceeded to climb the fence/tree/however she gets out. I haven't seen her since Monday, we have been looking everywhere.
Last night my other dog attack my cat and killed her...terribly. During all of this one of my other cats disappeared. I don't know if he was a victim of this attack also, or if he escaped. I'm going to search again outside in daylight in the trees and bushes. I don't know what I'm going to do if I find him out there too.

So now I'm faced with what to do with the dog that killed my cat (and possibly the other too). Do I take her back to the shelter (we got her 5 years ago)? Do I just hope she doesn't do it again? What if she does do it again, or worse attack my son?

I'm shaking so bad, crying. I can't sleep at all. I went to bed after 5am and woke up before 10am. After loosing Spudd this year my heart cannot take all of this (I wouldn't be able to take it anyway). I'm not religious at all, and last night I prayed. I just...I can't take all this.

*hugs Mirrin* my condonlances to you and yours :(

omg Kittyasauras.. thats too much for anyone to be handed at this range. Before your dog attacked your cat, did he at any time do anything agressive towards your cats? Cause if this is out of the blue...Yickes!
I would take him to the vet and rule out any possebility of medical problems before taking any kind of decission if this was a first time... or even if he did things previously as he now actually killed a cat which is a different thing then just be "angry" towards it.
And I don't know how old your son is but be sure hes safe. If that means the dog has to be out of the house till you figure out what to do with it then thats the place he should be. NO chances!
Hope you will find the other two missing pets. :(

Finn (my big black and white cat) is okay! My husband found him outside in the neighbors yard hiding under some bushes. He was so visibly shaken he almost bolted again. We got him inside and I just broke down. I was so afraid that I was going to find him like I found Alice (the cat that was killed). It's bittersweet thing. I was so close to Alice and we had becoming even closer after Spudd's death.

My dog is outside and my cats are staying inside right now. My son just turned two, my dog has never really shown aggression towards the cats or him, but this happened. I don't know what to think. I'm very mad at her and I can't bear to look at her. I've had her since 2007. The only time she showed any irritation was when one of my cats was doing something 'wrong' that she didn't like. Like walking on her or something.

I'm going to try and explain this the best I can, we have a large back porch that is screened in. We have sliding doors that go from the house to the porch. All of the litter boxes are outside on our large porch so that they can go and lay in the sun (and I don't have to smell their poop!). The screen was completely torn down on one side.

I assume what happened was that Alice was already outside in the yard, some how got scared into the back yard and the dog was chasing her. She tried to get into the screened in area of the back porch latched onto it and tore it down. I don't want to think about the rest. But during that, it probably scared the crap out of Finn (he is very skittish) and he bolted.

I'm so relived about Finn, I just wish Alice was here with me.

Thank you everyone. Mirrin I just read what happened on your area of life; I too am very sorry.

Wow, kittyasauras. I'm glad Finn is okay!
Mirrin, I'm so sorry. At least he's in a better place now, I guess ... that's what I keep telling myself anyway, my grandpa died three months ago.

Seriously though, what is it with this year? Feels like all the "end of the world" talk from earlier this year was channeling into random desasters or something :?

Kittyasauras .... I don't know how I'm going to respond to this without sounding harsh because I really truly understand some of what you are going through. Our dog Cody (also a rescue) didn't show any signs of aggression to our family, although he was very aggressive towards strangers and was almost obsessed with my husband. Then one day, as I was trying (incorrectly) to calm him down during a walk when some kids walked by us, he nipped me, drawing a little bit of blood. He was immediately sorry and I was okay, but I was mad at him for a few days and cautious of him after that. However, a few months later my teen daughter went to pet him while he was up on my bed and he grabbed her nose and bit down. We had to take her to the emergency room. She didn't need stitches, but she still bears a couple of scars on her nose and that was 3 years ago. It could have been much worse.

I would also suggest you do take the dog to the vet. Rule out any medical reasons for the sudden aggression. Talk to the vet about your concerns. Then listen to what they suggest and then do it. You have to take your child into consideration. I put off doing anything about Cody because my husband and daughter would get upset any time I tried to talk about getting rid of the dog - until Joy was bit.

My heart really does go out to you. Our pets become part of our family and it's become difficult when something like this happens.

Hi Kittyasaurus - I'm so sorry to hear about what happened as well - and I'm going to second what Kirahfaye said about take your dog to the vet first to rule out medical reasons.

My best friend had a cat that was totally normal 90% of the time - then suddenly one day it bit a kid seriously on the hand. Since the kid had been poking the cat with a stick (not hard, but annoying) she blew it off. Then the cat suddenly went berzerk on a neighbor. Again, incident was blown off as cat calmed down and was normal again. Then the cat went berzerk on her - literally chasing her through her apartment, launching itself onto her back and legs until she locked herself into a bathroom for an hour. When she came out the cat was normal again - like nothing had happened. She required stitches on leg and back. Had she taken the cat to a vet earlier she would have learned he had a tumor that was causing the problems - instead he ended up being put down by animal control and only then was the tumor discovered.

Definitely do not hope that nothing more may happen, but take good, due diligence steps to find out what the cause may have been and then make your decision.

Kittyasaurus that's terrible. :/ I'm so glad that during all these years I'm alive none of my dogs did anything to cats. I was bitten by my dog when I was a child, though. He didn't like me because I was annoying little kid. So, when I was going to pet him, he bit me. This left a small scar on my face. I'm pretty sure it's gone now. But later me and that dog became good friends. Maybe nobody noticed what happened and what's why nothing was done about that? He's been gone for almost 10 years now, so I can't say for sure.

And I want to share my own problem. I feel like I'm being ignored by my good friend. We both are studying the same subject at university and that's how we met on September. We quickly became friends and since we live next to each other, we used to walk to university and back together. We used to chat on Facebook a lot. But all this week she's been avoiding me. She goes to university before me, while waiting for a bus pretends not to notice me, in the bus sits with other friend, while going home pretends not to notice me again or just simply leaves before me, doesn't talk to me during breaks and during lectures changes her seat so she would be farther from me. In short - I feel like my presence is unpleasant for her. But I don't know why and it really hurts. Everything was fine until October started. Maybe she's angry that I didn't invite her over when I was at home alone? But it's not like I was throwing a party. I barely had time for myself as I was busy filling dad's requests he couldn't do. Or maybe she's angry about other day - she was going home ahead of me and when I caught up with her - she ignored me. So, I took different path, got ahead of her and went home alone. Should I have just trailed behind pretending that I don't notice how she's ignoring me? I never talked behind her back or anything like that! So, why she's doing this to me? We have to make a presentation together next week and my high school teacher wants us to make presentation at my school but with her ignoring me like this, I have no idea how things will work out. I was "non-existent" for boys of my class in basic school but that was actually quite convenient and much better than bullying. They weren't friends. But I considered this girl a good friend. No idea why she suddenly turned her back to me. And that makes me want be alone and cry. :(

My suck is so tiny compared to everything else on the last few pages of this thread... I suppose I should be grateful that the worst thing going on in my life right now is that I lost my favorite pair of headphones.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@
