Oh man, I heard cat bites and scratches can cause nasty infections, but I haven't actually heard of it happening in real life before. I hope everything goes well, and all that will be left is just a funny story.

I'm sorry this happened and definitely good wishes to your Dad. FYI, it doesn't matter what kind of bite. Human or animal they can all get severely infected. Tons of bacteria in any mouth. I got a bit infected once because an unruly 2 year old decided to bite me and I've also had infected cat bites. Rule of thumb, flush any puncture or bite wound with betadine or something similar then put on triple antibiotic cream. Any signs of redness after a day go straight to a doctor. These days with MRSA infections and all you cannot be too careful.
