For Evelien- The Music Room

Postby cirquemom » Wed Dec 05, 2012 6:50 pm

As per request by Evelien, here are the measurements of my guitars, and then a look at the other musical instruments.

Image
Marie is my musician, so she will do most of the demonstrating. Marie is a 60 cm Obitsu BJD with 55 cm legs, so she is approx. the same height as a 50 cm. This is the large guitar- it measures 9.75 inches.

Image
Small guitar- 9.5 inches.

Alice holds the large guitar to show how it looks with a 50 cm.

Marie on the left holding the small guitar, Alice holds the large guitar.

Image
Large violin- 7 15/16 inches.

Image
Small violin- 6.25 inches.

Image
*SSHHHHHHHH!!!!!* Don't tell Umka but this trumpet is his Christmas present!

Image
And there's also a saxophone in the doll house. Maybe Bonnie will play this one.

Image
And of course, Marie's main instrument is the flute.

Image
And the piano.

At least one of the guitars is a music box, and maybe one of the violins. So if you are haunting ebay looking for instruments, that is a good place to look (under music boxes). The little instruments were listed under "Musical Instruments"- I searched for "miniature flute" etc. Sometimes they will be listed under "Collectibles" too. And then on occasion under "dolls".

LOL - dirty Bonnie in the background :)

American Girls instruments should work as well for BJDs...I think.

Yes, she still hasn't had her bath, I better do it soon before it stains.

American Girls instruments are perfect, but they can be ridiculously pricey if you buy the official ones. Much more reasonable getting them from other categories without the AG brand on them.

Christmas ornaments are good too - I have an American Girl Flute that is perfect (and includes the music stand) plus I have an ornament that is an Oboe. I also have an accoustic guitar, a small piano that is electric, and some other things.

necessaryextras.com sells inexpensive props for American Girl size dolls: musical instruments. I think we have some (acquired in a round about fashion) that my husband plans to use for xmas tree ornaments. That's what he thinks ...

Christmas ornaments are always a great place to look for props. So many of my little things were supposedly Christmas ornaments.

You're giving me ideas, cirquemom - thank you! :) I had a violin planned for one of my girls, a netherlands-based doll shop carries them, but I thought I'd have to do some serious improvising with the piano. Great to see they're actually around! ^^

Jany- the piano is a music box as well- that is what it was sold as. It's electronic (although you can actually play the keys). I had to put new, higher legs on it and on the bench- I simply took off the old, short ones, and bought three column cake risers (the kind you put between layers on a wedding cake to raise them up) and spray painted them black. What I would really love is an old Schoenhut piano. Maybe someday!

Thanks for the info, I'll keep my eyes open for music boxes! Good luck with the Schoenhut :)
