Doll Repaints: Feedback Please!

Ok, so basically I've been doing lots of repaints, as I have aspirations to eventually sell. I would just like some feedback please. Thanks!


This is a repaint I did of a Mary Kate or Ashley Olsen head, now on a LIV body. I did her eyes, brows, mouth, freckles, shading. I also did a total reroot on her hair.


This doll has a LIV body, with Barbie head. Her hair has been mostly rerooted, adding layers of light blonde, pink, and black. The pink is hard to see in this pic though. I repainted her eyes, brows, mouth, shading. Her outfit (not the shoes) and purse, I made. The purse also opens and closes.


This is a Barbie head, on a Barbie body. I left her hair alone. I repainted her eyes, brows, mouth, shading. I made her outfit. I gave her purple nails.


This one is also all Barbie, I gave her hair some highlights. I repainted her eyes, brows, mouth, shading. I'm not that happy with the outcome though, I will likely touch her up some. But her mouth was open, and I didn't draw in teeth, to make it look more like she was gaping. I'm not thrlled with how it turned out, any ideas? Oh, I also sewed the dress.


This last 1 is all Barbie, I repainted her eyes, mouth, brows, shading. This was one of my earlier ones, and I'm not totally happy with the bottom of her eyes. I will likely retouch that, any advice on getting finer lines?

I really like them! =D the only thing id change tho is that they could look a little cleaner. Maybe try using a different brush =o and do smaller cleaner strokes?

Thanks for the suggestion, trust me, I would love to have finer lines, but I already have like the finest brush I could find. Any suggestions on where to get like, the finest brush possible?

Where did you buy your brushes? I know in an art store near where I live they sell incredibly thin AND short brushes (fairly useful for finer control of thin lines; the 'brush' part is short not the handle). Also... I actually don't know enough about painting to comment on this in more detail, but my friend told me that the consistency of the paint you use is also quite important.

Like, the thicker the paint is the more vibrant it'll be with application but the thicker the lines will be. If you thin the paint out, maybe you'll get finer lines (although you may have to re-apply the paint more than once)..?

The thinnest brushes I can find are usually not small enough to paint dolls. Even detail brushes to large for precise small strokes. Most of the best repaint artists use brushes with practically no hairs left in them and a magnifying light of some kind. I personally do nothing on a Barbie except mouth and occasionally to add color to the eyeshadow or something. Barbie dolls are just too small for my limited skills. I end up botching them every time. These aren't bad but honestly I think you're a ways off yet from selling repaints. From what I've seen of the ones that sell I think you could get there eventually though. You have talent. But you definitely need a bit more practice it looks like. They do look a bit rough yet. But keep at it. I really think you could do it.

Junkyspot sells the brushes! Also - use high quality paint. Emory sells that too. And yes, thinner paint works well. Are you using gloss on the lips and eyes for shine at all? That helps too. I do think you are doing very well, very saleable!
