Actually, when they were first released, I was put off my the smallness of the male heads too lol But the proportions kept clicking in my brain and then I realised that the reason they looked off to me, and very very right at the same time, was because they're proportioned like the 'ideal' human figure used in classical sculpture, anatomical studies etc, (my inner art student got very excited when I realised this! lol).
Not quite the same athetically as other BJD, but they're definately fun...my Rou immitates Michaelangelo's David very well
