Liv Dolls?

Postby lili » Sun Feb 03, 2013 12:12 pm

Hello there! I really love 1/6 dolls, but I'm only interested in the fully articulated ones, like liv and monster high.

Anyway, a couple of days ago, I found a package of liv dolls for just $3.99 at my local thrift store. :P I jumped on purchasing them, although now I really have no idea what I'm doing.

I've heard that liv dolls aren't being manufactured any more, is that true? Also, what kind of customizing could I do with these dolls in terms of repainting and whatnot? What kind of clothing can they wear? Can I purchase wigs that aren't specifically made for liv dolls?

I'm not very familiar with 1/6 commercial dolls, but I'm very excited about them. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Liv is no longer being made. I think their wig size is 5-6, wigs are usually measured in inches. For repainting you can use acrylic paint, water color pencils, and/or chalk pastels like you would use on any plastic dolls. Stay away from oil based products.

Barbie clothes can be hit or miss but there is a pattern book for them http://www.lulu.com/shop/kim-reed/just- ... 50271.html

Just what DK said. These doll are no longer made. It's too bad because I really like the bodies to use with other heads like Barbie or Ken.

Oh, that's helpful, thanks very much!
Yeah, it is a shame. Besides Moxie and MH they were one of the better posing ones. :(

I did too! Well, there were two Liv dolls, but packages separately with a Barbie, so I just got the one with the doll I preferred. Same price, too.
Mine is super fun, and I'm really surprised that I hadn't heard of them before! She poses almost as well as my Obitsus (though she reminds me why I spring for the three-part-torso) and is really nice in general.

They do pose pretty good, it's a pity they were discontinued. I only just discovered them too, and they were never even sold over here, so good luck with thrift stores...

If you want to increase the poseability even further, someone made a tutorial here. I haven't tried it myself, but it looks interesting.

Also, their wigs are so nice and soft! I was really surprised.

Me too, I adore their wigs so much. I have one that's bald and naked. She's sporting a dress that I made for my pullip, but I don't think that will last much longer.

Mine also came with a barbie, lol! But it was one of those barbies that had the face of a real person, it was actually really scary to look at so I stashed it in some random bag until I could figure out what to do with it. 0.0;

Thanks for the tutorial, that looks pretty interesting. I might try it when I'm up for some experimental injuries. :)

I like to cut the heads of Livs so I can change their eyes. I find that with the wig it still looks nice and I enjoy giving them interesting eyes.

If you are talking about some place like Savers, if I find two dolls I want that are packed with dolls that I don't want, I'll carefully make a hole and swap them around. I figure as long as I replace a doll for a doll I'm not doing anything wrong. After all you can't expect someone who has no experience with dolls to know that someone who likes Liv's might not have any interest in a Bratz doll without feet or a plank limbed Barbie. Especially since there are people out there who might want just the Bratz or the Barbies and not want any Livs.
