Stormlight - that trip sounds awesome! And yes. There is something about Baltimore(and in my experience Seacausus NJ and parts of Pittsburgh) that gps simply can't understand.

We arrived early enough that we got to see the divers feeding the rays and the big turtle in the main tank, and then the puffin feeding, and there were more divers cleaning the huge tropical fish exhibit. One of them took handfuls of gravel and let it fall, and all the fish would swarm under it for a gravel shower. Got some awesome pics of that.

Even better, went through the rainforest at the top, and got to see the golden lion Tamarin. I've been to that aquarium half a dozen times and that's the first time I actually ever saw the monkeys. Got pics of that, too.

Glad you enjoyed your time here in Maryland! :D

I used to volunteer at the Aquarium! It was so awesome! I was an aviary assistant, so I worked in the rainforest. I put out the food dishes for the birds and animals and got to handfeed grub worms to the tamarins once and got the handfeed a grape to the sloth too hehe. Also got to see the marmoset mama and baby up close to put them away in the amazon exhibit.

Only thing I hated was having to grab handfulls of live crickets and toss them around the rainforest to feed the birds. I wore gloves and all, but still... holding a hand full of live crickets... yuck! The live grub and meal worms were bad enough. But it was well worth it for the experience and to get to be close to the animals ^_^

Lucky! I'd love to work in the aquarium, especially with the birds and animals.

I used to work in a pet shop years ago (was my first retail job, in fact), and I had to pick out live crickets for the customers for their lizards and stuff. We didn't wear gloves to do it, though. The cricket cage stank. Even worse was having to pick out the dead crickets. X__x

Then there were the pinky mice, which are basically newborn mice with closed eyes and no hair. It never bothered me that much to handle them, though. Probably because I like mice. I just always felt it was really cruel to let the poor helpless babies die of starvation if they didn't get sold as snake food ahead of time.

Honestly, when the owner (who was a real asshole in my opinion) went out of business, I was glad. Served him right, I thought. He scared the crap out of me when I worked there, and there was something shady about the way he ran his business. He got bought out by a larger national company, so that was the end of that.

If you have an aquarium in your state, maybe you can see if they are taking volunteers? It really was awesome getting to go in behind the scenes :)

Ug, that's so horrible about the poor baby mice :( I'm weird and have more compassion for animals than humans hehe, so I really hate people who don't treat animals right.

I got to visit a friend of mine out in Deltona today, and take Badger on a mini road trip (really, 50 miles and an hour's worth of driving doesn't constitute much of a road trip, but it was nice) He handles like a dream, and took the drive like a champ. Got to open him up a bit on the bridge over Lake Jesup, but I really don't fancy a speeding ticket so soon after getting him, so I had to throttle the leadfootitis.
