I can honestly say I have never had to restring any of my Obitsu's. That bad joke inflicted, actually I will probably restring several of my dolls. An average lifespan of elastic in a doll is five years. Elidor is almost 7 and he is heavy. He needs new string. Elianna, also a DZ doll, is almost the same age and isn't in need of new elastic at all. She is MSD to his 70cm. The only doll that will be difficult to restring is my Goodreau girl, she is only partially strung and it is with connectors. It seems that many people fear re-stringing, but it is actually very simple! Just keep your left and right parts separate, and make sure you know which way a joint like elbow and knee peanuts go before unstringing and you will be fine. There are tutorials online, and many helpful people here.
I have restrung lots of dolls, and it's actually rather fun!
