1/6 accessory for the truly twisted!

Postby Geektopian » Sun Oct 24, 2010 1:47 pm

Yep, I'll freely admit to being a twisted sucker and, if I had the money, I'd buy one of these:

LINK

Your own (sadly non-functioning) 1/6 scale nuclear warhead, complete with a wheeled cart and control box. I recall reading somewhere that this is based on a prop made for the movie True Lies. With a few of these and my giant orbital "LAY-ZER" (must be said with finger quote marks), my plans for 1/6 scale world domination would be even closer to reality! Bwahahaha!

This is why I love you Mlatch.

Although I will say I don't know if that price is to steep or not. Does it come with real 1/6 scale nuclear material?

Supposedly, the price is due to the fact that the entire thing is built from machined metal. Basically, it's an "economics of scale" thing like resin BJDs. Small production plus lots of skilled hand work equals high price. Or so the story goes.

A.R.'s comment about keeping all of her dolls away from this, least they get any bad ideas made me realize something. I have a few villains in my collection but none of them are really at the "let's use a nuke" level. Even Seraya, who is pretty damned mean and probably a total sociopath (among her more likable traits) is still pretty much a bureaucratic toady. Comrade Ernesto, while a somewhat competent military field commander, is more bluster than substance and my version of Cobra Commander at least seems like a harmless kook in a costume. There aren't any real megalomaniacal, genocidal individuals who are also competent and have the leadership qualities needed for something like this.

@David, wow, I'd figure you had some nasty fellows in your brood. But yeah, when you have this guy running around (or soon to be running around when his human finally orders him some hair and paints him), amongst other unsavory individual with varying degrees of psychological instability, it's probably best to make sure they don't get wind of such things. Especially for the sake of my wallet :o

Lord only knows Lex and Eusine would be tempted to blow something like that up for shits and giggles, or to take a very disproportionate revenge on Jirarudan/Lavalamp (if Eusine were at the controls, anyway). That doesn't include all the things Ghinius/Sakura/Cima/etc would want to use it for.

Maybe I'm a lot more "sweetness and light" than I appear on the 'net! I think it may be because the characters I create aren't necessarily the powerful "big names" in their world. Even the nominal "bad guys" are just grunts and functionaries, while the "great leaders" they follow tend to be far removed from the action, not unlike real life.

BUT I occasionally play with this whacked out, impractical idea of building a several hundred-strong army of minions and a "Beloved Leader" character with his or her retinue of functionaries and sycophants. Maybe 2011 can be my personal year of the bad guy, even if I don't build a huge army for them.

I'm really tempted to see if I can construct something similar on the cheap. The warhead itself could probably be made from a model rocket nose cone but the other parts would likely require quite a bit more effort.

I feel the same way about this that I do those Ashley Wood robots. I would love to have 'em but I just can't justify the price. Yet they look simple enough to build if you could clear some construction hurdles.
