Feelings about giving up a doll

Postby Rezinfly » Sat Oct 26, 2013 8:36 pm

I'm thinking about selling one of my dolls. I had her for 6 years now, and recently (past 2 years) every time I look at her she just seems so sad. Nothing I do seems to make anything better. Have gotten her a new wig, new clothes, new face up :/ she just doesn't fit in anymore. A part of me wants to give her a new home but the other part of me wants to keep her. Its been making me so sad thinking about giving her up and I fear that if I go through with selling her and giving her a new home, I will feel I made a horrible mistake.

Has anyone else gone through this when giving a doll a new home? or am I just super weird :(

Put her away for a while, but if you are unsure don't sell her.

I just took that into account, tucked her safely away in a closet I don't go into. Wont take her out for a good while.
Thanks ^^

I've felt the same way with my doll, Laika. I decided to try some photomanipulation, to see if a different wig or eyes would help. I haven't found the right combination yet, but I'm still trying! I look at pictures of wigs for sale on, say, Mint on Card, and I pose my doll accordingly. That might help if you want to try another look but don't want to spend money on a wig that might not work. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Well, I am not a good one to ask because for me, it is matching the character to the doll, and if the doll doesn't match, it goes out the door without a second thought.

I can say I understand.
As much as I don't believe my dolls actually have feelings or anything like that, I do tend to anthropomorphize them a bit. I have yet to get rid of any of them. I debated quite a bit with a 1/6 girl I had who just didn't want to work at anything, but I felt so bad about it- like she would be "hurt" if I let her go. Eventually I realized she made a much cuter boy, and it is mostly worked out now. That took over 2 years.

That said, I also think sometimes we work so hard and long on trying to make a doll do something- anything -that we just can't let go until it cooperates. It's kind of like admitting defeat if you let go.

Hopefully by the time you take her out again you can make a good decision about what to do with her.

giving up a doll is something you really have to think about. i have sold one of mine and it was the first doll i ever owned. i pushed around the idea for about a year before choosing to do so. in the end of it all i found him a great home with someone that had always wanted one in the msd size. she was so happy and grate full it really made me feel better about the sale. and i am happy with the doll i re-shelled him into. so i guess what i am getting at is selling a doll is bitter sweet but its some times a good thing

Thanks to everyones replies its given me a lot to think about. It's nice to know people understand, I can't even explain how I feel about the situation to my bf in a way he can understand lol
I wont make any hasty decisions until my girl is out of the closet and I think about it some more.

Dolls that go bye-bye are ones that I have no feelings (or negative feelings) for.

Ones that I'm on the fence about hang around until I'm sure I'd rather part with them.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@
